1. you had an exception - for the EU
epo   (01.05.18)
its normal, that abroad an intl drivingi license is required.
if you have an accident in asia, the insurance may not pay if at the time you cant show the intl license - for insurance reasons alone.

normally, this intl license is limited - has an expiry date.
2. Very Good! It will filter out 50% of drivers...
ironbutterfly ,   Naples, FL   (01.05.18)
50% of israeli drivers shouldn't have license to drive in the first place.
These are the ones who completely ignore ALL traffic laws: they don't signal when changing lanes, tailgating, aggressive behavior like cutting you off not only from the left, but very frequently from the right, which is unheard of in US and Canada, honking...etc.
The law will eliminate them and will make European and North American roads much safer.
3. Millions spent to upgrade the IL license to It'l standards..
Tevye ,   Chelm   (01.05.18)
Crazy! Israel spent millions to upgrade the Israeli license format - so it would be compatible to International standards; Israelis had to pay extra for this "Iternational standardized driving license...".... And now - all for nothing it appears... Behavior just like in my city ... Chelmish!
4. NOW ISRAELIS WILL KNOW
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.05.18)
Israelis might just get a taste of how impossible it is for immigrants to Israel , olim ,to obtain an israeli drivers licence. I once drove coaches and buses in England ,including the famous London Double-Deck Routemaster buses ,also I did work as a chauffeur etc but I have trying to obtain a regular israel drivivers Licence to drive a car here in Israel for the past 15 years without success ,all I have obtained is stress from dealing with ridiculous israeli bureaucracy and being ripped of for thousands of shekels by an unscrupulous driving instructor here.
5. ISRAELI DRIVERS LICENCE
THEODORE HURTSEL ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (01.05.18)
For olim ,a.k.a new immigrants to Israel , it is nigh impossible to obtain an israeli Drivers Licence ,it is easier to walk on the moon than to get a licence here in Israel. The bureaucrats make matters unnecessarily and impossibly difficult and Driving instructors here routinely play games and exploit these immigrants for thousands of shekels at a time. I know because that also happened to me. FOR SHAME.
6. Useless Article
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.05.18)
It tells you "can't" and doesn't bother to inform the reader how they "can".
How about telling the reader where to get the International license and be useful instead of just the bearer of bad news?
7. Just another tax.
JD   (01.05.18)
Just another tax.
8. HONK HONK
YOSSI THE SABRA ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (01.05.18)

9. There is a something fishy behind this: WHAT "security"?!

10. Misleading info
Pavel ,   Tel Aviv   (01.06.18)
Actually, nothing whatsoever changes. What changed is an official recommendation of MOT to cover their asses. The countries that accepted Israeli driving license - continue to accept, those who don't (or not always) - do the same. MOT just trying to avoid any responsibility by issuing this blanked statement, so if anyone complains after coming across place that doesn't respect out driver license they could tell them "we told you". Regardless, it is a good practice to check in advance and make sure that country you a visiting and car rental company in particular are accepting Israeli driving license.
11. Come on mister - everybody knows..........
mike ,   tel aviv   (01.07.18)
that Italian drivers are the worst in Europe. Israeli drivers are quite mild in comparison.
12. int.licence
david rubin ,   jerusalem   (01.15.18)
the MOT doesn't say which countries, because NO country has made this demand.
13. Intern. Licence in Israel for EU tourists
Gabriele ,   Frankfurt/Germany   (01.25.18)
EU tourists are not able to rent a car in Israel without an Intern. Driver Licence! Takes up to 6 weeks in Germany to receive it with loss of the domestic licence. So please don't complain ;-)
