1. Learn Hebrew
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte   (01.27.18)
I think Israel should help launch a program to teach French Jews Hebrew while they still live in France (if such a program does not already exist.) I know that individuals can learn on their own, but doing it in a group environment might make it easier and more fun.
2. THE REALITY:
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
I have lived here in Israel in 2003, there is ,unfortunately, next to zero jobs or job opportunities for olim, new immigrants to Israel. All Israel can offer new immigrants is a hard time. Even a simple mundane matter such as converting a foreign Drivers License to an israeli one is a near impossibility, an expensive racket. Be warned.
3. LEARNING HEBREW MAKES LITTLE DIFFERENCE
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
Learning Hebrew makes no difference, there are still very very few jobs to offer new immigrants.
4. THE HARSH REALITY IN ISRAEL:
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
PM Netanyahu will keep feeding you sound-bites about how well Israel is doing, the economy etc but there are no jobs here,I know because I live here. And all the slogans and soundbites in the world do nothing to help. As for Netanyahu ,he lives in a different world ,a parallel universe where he maily mixes with the rich and famous therefore he has little clue just how hard life in Israel can be for many people.
5. TO FRENCH JEWS: DON'T BOTHER
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
Life is too short, why waste it being poor and miserable and dealing with ridiculous bureaucracy? go and live somewhere civilized and organized, Israel does not deserve good quality immigrants.
6. DOCTORS, PHARMACISTS AND DENTISTS
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
To medical professionals, such as Doctors ,nurses, pharmacists ,dentists and others are are considering making aliyah from France to Israel ,do not despair because Israel makes it next to impossible for you to receive certification in Israel. Not to worry: there are always lots of cleaning jobs here, cleaning floors in schools and Hospitals and other buildings ,they even provide the soap and water so no need to worry on that front. Immigrants need to be flexible in their career choices.
7. NETANYAHU COULD CARE LESS
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
Netanyahu is in Davos suckong up to the other leaders, he clearly gets a thrill out of playing with the rich and the powerful ,whilst here in Israel things are tough ,and new immigrants are not properly appreciated and looked after.
8. THE ISRAELI MENTALITY
YOSSI THE SABRA ,   SAFED SABRA   (01.27.18)
Israelis do not like competition . Israelis will do everything humanly possible to prevent new immigrants coming to Israel and talking jobs ,the good jobs, which are earmarked for sabras, those born in Israel eeeehhhh . You want to be a well-paid Bus Driver in Israel? you must be born here and have served in the army. If you are a foreign Bus Driver we will make damn sure that you never get a License to drive here, eeeehhhhhh. Doctors from France can retrain and become cleaners in Hotels, we have enough Doctors here ,the good jobs are for israelis only ......eeeeehhhhh
9. LET'S BE HONEST ,
MR HONESTY ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
Israel has little to offer new immigrants ,aside from a hard time.
10. " ABSORPTION FAILURES"
MR CYNIC ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
" Clearly ,absorption failures cannot be blamed on the state alone " oh yes they jolly well can.
11. ISRAELI INSECURITY
STIGMUND FREUD ,   SAFED PSYCHIATRIC   (01.27.18)
Israelis are very insecure, both in matters of defense and also insecure in matters of finance . Israelis fear having the good jobs (which should be exclusively reserved for native-born sabras ) going to new immigrants. Any decent jobs are reserved for israelis, the new immigrants are last in the queue .An israeli can go to live in London ,or in Paris or in madrid and receive a good job ,but never the other way around.
12. NEED TO BE HONEST:
MR HONESTY ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.27.18)
The Jewish Agency needs to be honest with professional immigrants to Israel and to tell them that there is little opportunity for employment for them ,instead of leading them on in a merry dance which does not end happily ever after.
13. Montreal
Arnie ,   Montreal   (01.27.18)
We have a thriving Jewish community in Montreal. The government of Quebec would love to have them come here.
14. THE UPSIDE:
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.28.18)
There are many good and happy aspects relating to life in Israel, many good things. Good people, good food ,a nice climate ,a fulfilled jewish life ,even if things can often be a struggle financially and with the language etc many new immigrants live happy lives here in Israel.
15. THE ISSUE HERE: SENTIMENTS
PIERRE LE CYNIQUE ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (01.29.18)
Jew, naturally ,often make aliyah ( emigrate to Israel) full of sentiments ,which is understandable. But once they are in Israel , reality kicks in ,jobs to hunt ,food to but, bills to pay etc .Perhaps some immigrants are more fortunate, they land on their feet ,but others have a hard time.
16. Israel Is Not Ready
Aryeh ,   Brooklyn   (01.30.18)
Israel simply has not thought this through. Otherwise it would have 50,000 housing units waiting for Olim Chadashim from all over the world, not just France. And if there is a problem of the Euro - Shekel exchange rate, especially for the elderly, consider that their Euros, Dollars, or Pounds are bringing in foreign currency to Israel and those who are collecting foreign Bituach Leumi (Social Security) should be given a bonus for their contribution to the Israeli economy. And after you consider the French, start getting ready for the Jews in Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, and the Ukraine, all places where the Jewish population is under siege. Time to build another city or two and to open another desalinization plant.
17. Immigration is your choice not Israel
Tova   (01.30.18)
You decide to move to Israel - deal with it. Immigration is not easy not matter what country you decide to go to. It is really arrogant of immigrants to assume whatever lifestyle they had it should be the same in Israel. Nonsense.

In other countries it no different. No country today can absorb immigrants fast enough. Stop depending of government to secure your lifestyle.

You are in Israel - that should be appreciated. With so many different cultures and religions in Israel do you think you deserve more than others.

Russian immigrants coming to Israel expected free access to everything. And they took advantage without any appreciation of the Israeli citizens.

Then the Russians moved to Canada and United States because they didn't like Israel. Then they complained more and more.

Be thankful as a Jew you have a country.
18. LIFE's MUCH better in Montreal, Toronto, Florida, NOT Israel
ironbutterfly ,   Naples, FL   (01.31.18)
19. French Jews... an interesting bunch
Jojo ,   Jerusalem   (01.03.19)
Ah well. A win-win situation perhaps. Better quality of life and appreciation of their educational skills in Canada. And frankly, the French aren't exactly known for their working ethics (lazy as hell), feeling of collectivity (living amongst themselves only) and.. who needs cocky, egocentric soldiers?
