2. Soon the game will be over
Moshé Geneva ,   Geneva   (03.03.18)
US is keeping calm, does'nt mean they are not ready, but when it will start, if it starts, it will go way up to the end !
3. no argument about Turkish invasion- is not justified at all
Michael   (03.03.18)
Dear Ron, thanks for the insightful piece. However, you create a misconception in regards to the Kurds, and even contradict yourself. In spite of the politics, they are the only group that can support Israel, and as you state, create a bottleneck for the Iranian corridor. There is no justification for the criminal acts of Erdogan, not only the invasion, but what he has done to the Kurdish people in Turkey, and now in Syria. The YPG in fact, was a buffer against IS, thus protecting Turkey from IS attacks. When Erdogan attacked the Kurds, and broke the cease fire with them, IS was able to carry out horrendous terrorist attacks inside Turkey. Therefore, the Turkish incursion does not serve Israel's interests in any way whatsoever. And, why can't the Kurds have their own nation after all? or autonomy? Erdogan is using them to justify his destruction of Turkish democracy.
4. Not all leaders are as corrupt as Israel’s and America’s,
Ken   (03.03.18)
Not all presidents are rapists, but hey, it’s probably close. The author needs to refocus.
5. USA and Iran
Arnie M ,   Montreal   (03.03.18)
For the life of me I do not understand why the USA has cowtowed to Iran ever since Iran attacked the American Embassy in Tehran in 1979. That was an act of war. Can someone please explain it to me.
6. Easily fixed:
DONALD THUMP ,   SAFED WASHINGTON   (03.03.18)
Just arm the Teachers....
7. Pointless
David Horne ,   Portland Oregon   (03.03.18)
Forgetting that the president is Trump, it's pointless for the U.S. to back Israel in its fight as long as Israel is still poking everyone in the eye increasing settlements, jailing young teen girls for slapping a soldier and pushing an apartheid state. Israel needs to clean up its mess then, and only then, would assistance have a purpose. Otherwise, it's just rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship and waiting for the inevitable end. Gai Gezuint, may god bless you.
8. International intervention comes only after Israel takes

9. So more US troops committed to protect Israel? No.
JVC ,   LA, USA   (03.03.18)
Israel is still in denial. Draft EVERYONE, do not tell me the kids consider it uncool to serve, do not highlight Israeli "avant garde" directors putting out films like "Foxtrot" that Leftist outlets are crooning over... the state of Israeli society is sick. Israel's head is in guillotine and its civilian culture is drunk with material success and chutzpa. Complaining of "perpetual war?" Well tough crap. It is. Moaz visits his trauma on society. We don't need it. The alternative is the gas chamber. It's still out here (galut). Moaz doesn't get that, nor do Geffen and the elites but tough crap. Wake up Israel, no one is going to fight your wars for you, not even the US.
10. Don't hold your breath
Harrybaby ,   Toronto   (03.03.18)
Don't knock yourself out, Ron. Trump will never stand up to Putin. #putin'spoodle
11. great column, fully agree: US SHOULD be there. But it's NOT!
Rafi ,   US   (03.03.18)
And it will NOT happen under Trump...

Realize that Trump's unbelievably INCOMPETENT, self-destructive; there's a White House crisis almost DAILY ! Trump's effectively paralyzed the US internationally. (See latest statement by fmr CIA Director John Brennan)

Until Trump leaves the scene (sooner the better), Israel, Jordan and other traditional American allies in the Mid East will need to tread water when facing Syria & other regional conflicts.

As you point out, it is in this vacuum that Russia and Iran are thriving.

Traditional US policy would be to gas up the 6th fleet in the eastern Medit and start some extreme pressure on Russian/ Iranian assets in Syria !!

For all their flaws, Nixon & Kissinger knew exactly how to play this game - and to speak the language the bad guys understood very clearly.
12. ben yisahi and bibi together make the same old mistake
maury   (03.03.18)
why is it that it is always the USA that has to do the heavy lifting-push the usa to do something in Syria? It is always the same song. bibi of course has no confidence in himself in the security field.

Israel has a powerful military when it is permitted to fight and hds a leader like a sharon. but with bibi, it has ahe i pipsqueak which is why he and now yishai says push trump to act.

moreover, it is demoralizing to Jews that israeli leaders lack such confidence. if i was leader, i know what i would have the idf do.

get the plans ready.
13. Americans hate Israel
D ,   US   (03.03.18)
Israel is being more and more hated in America every day, having the US get involved in a military campaign that does not benefit America in the slightest is going to be the nail in the coffin for America's support of IsraelElliott Broidy
14. NO, Yishai, we will not be dragged in further
Cameron   (03.03.18)
We have made a distinct point of keeping our relative distance from that wretched theater of the ME, and this wary approach will continue to be the norm.
15. #9 Are you serious?
BBB   (03.03.18)
All Israeli citizens ( with the exemptions of the 'religious') are drafted and serve in the IDF unlike the American troops which are all voluntary.
I'm not aware that someone died and made you god.
16. # 7 Au Contraire!
BBB   (03.03.18)
We wont forget Trump is President and wont ignore some brawling brat from Gaza who slaps an Israeli soldier and belongs in jail.
You used the word, apartheid which doesn't not apply to Israel who has Jews, Muslims, Christians of all colors and all faiths.

Trump did what all other POTUS did not, he recognized the 1995 'Israeli Embassy act' voted in by the 104th congress and formally made Jerusalem Israel's ancient capitol.
Thank God for Trump and thank God for Israel who God chose for his own treasure.

Remember, God CHOSE Israel above all nations and all who bless Israel are blessed and all who curse Israel are cursed.
17. # 5 Arnie M, USA and Iran
BBB   (03.03.18)
I can't explain it all but, look to Obama for the recent wealth of Iran by gifting them billions.
18. Thank you Ron for your big picture analisys
DOV ,   USA   (03.04.18)
I would be interested to hear how you would insert the USA into the soup other then their current involvement. I absolutely agree that taking action to resolve the humanitarian crisis as well as helping secure Israel as to whats to come should be a priority. I have no faith in the Trump administration but I hope the US miltary has the power to make a difference.
19. Some groundbreaking new Tweet maybe
Avi L.   (03.04.18)
Or maybe a new affair with a porn actress? 160 000 $ is a good price ...

A Donald Tower in Eilat? Finding new frayerim ...

The Tweet is still the cheaper and most probable

20. UnitedStates Will Not Enter This War
Tova   (03.05.18)
The UnitedStates has no power left in the middle east. No matter who is president. The UnitedStates will not fight in a battle that Russia is invovled in

It would dangerous for the US and not a good idea. If the US enters this war it will be about Russia and the US and Israel will be caught in the crossfire.

Never in this history of Israel has any country entered a war that was on Israel's doorstep. And this will never happen.

The United States no longer has the capability to fight any more wars. Many nations have learned from the Americans that they have now become just as powerful as the Americans.

And more importantly. Americans have sacrifice enough lives fighting for other nations who care nothing for america. This applies to Israel as well.
For all the good that Israel does for the world. Many nations still seek to destroy her.

21. Defense
