1. This is common Haredi behaviour
No reason for the Haredi to be surprised or offended. This is how they treat people. This group refuses to recognize Israel and yet they expect to be proptected by IDF. How are they kidding?
The haredi community have created a cult unto themselves and separated themselves from the true Judaism. It really is sad they live in such denial of Torah in the way GOD intended Torah to be taught.

Just look at the faces of these orthodox hooligans that appear in the pictures. Could something better be expected out of them? Nothing better for them than to have three years conscription in the IDF.

They seem to be one of the same. The Ultra Orthodox do not recognize Israel. They do not obey GOD's law concerning military service. And yet the live in Israel. Jihadits do the same - they also do not recognize Israel.
Yet both these groups know that living in America they must obey the law otherwise there will be consquences.
Why do the Ultra Orthodox act so violently in Israel. They dare not do behave like criminals outside of Israel. (Yet there are some that try and easily get caught) Jihadists do the same.

Because of too much preoccupation of reliligious matters, it gives heredims no avenue to let go of their physical frustrations, when national service is a good source of focusing those pen up physical frustration on something more positive as the security of Israel.

Seems funny to me that a family minding its own business gets mercilessly attack and then the victim gives a full out interview and gets a posed photo in the newspaper.
This is not the behavior that I would expect most Haredim to do.
