1. Civil War
Daniel ,   Buenos Aires   (03.15.18)
Sionists, you want haredim to do what you think is logic. Haredim do not think as you. How foolish is a civil war?
2. Funding already stopped
Avigdor Weintraub ,   Kiryat Sefer   (03.15.18)
One the existing engineering schools in Jerusalem is trying to start engineering programs and other programs for haredim.. which I am interested in.. so instead of opening the doors to haredim .. the Malag (council of higher education) is blocking any new programs for Haredim.. saying there is no funding..

So I will just stay in Kollel.. while the government kvetches about haredim not working.. while.. the government just keeps their hands in their pockets.. the newspapers just present bubba meitzes...

3. You're right
Ezra Shapiro ,   Jerusalem   (03.15.18)
Honestly, you're completely right.
4. the demographics and birth rates
father of soldier   (03.15.18)
will soon disarm the army and country if policies stay the same, 2 billion this year, 4billion next and so on,,,,,
5. Better: Voluntary Army Service as Professional Soldiers
ironbutterfly ,   Naples, FL   (03.15.18)
Increasing number of young israel do not want to waste their lives for the army.
No more idiotic "patriotism", and risking your life for others.
It's time to eliminate mandatory army service and make all voluntary professional army.
This way the army will be smaller, but much more professional and effective.
6. This has unintended consequences
Vered, Israel   (03.15.18)
With the Hareidim, one must imagine the worst possible outcome of any proposal, and then double it. After all, Ben Gurion's failure to imagine tens of thousands of young people expecting to be supported by the taxpayers for life has resulted in our current situation. If we make the Hareidim exempt from the draft, while cutting funds for their yeshivot, what would eventually happen (after initial growing pains) is that they would drop out of the yeshivot. Because they actually are smart, just brainwashed, they would go into business and university. This would eventually result in nothing more than giving the Hareidim a 3-year head start in life that a soldier wouldn't get.
What we really need to do is stop funding the yeshivot entirely, as a lifetime enterprise. They should be treated just like a university. Some students must pay, some get scholarships, but it is not a way of life! After one graduates, it's OVER.
7. Very good
Benny Jacobs ,   Tel Aviv   (03.15.18)
Makes a lot of sense
8. Haredis are the real Jews, they represent the future
Khalid Amayreh ,   Jerusalem   (03.15.18)
Non-Haredis are not bona-fide Jews
9. And what will the state do
Big Yossi ,   Israel   (03.16.18)
with the Israeli Arabs citizens? Cut them off too for not serving? I'd like to see what the Supreme Court will say to that.
10. At least the Hardim don't burn Arab kids as the settlers do!
Ron Steinberg ,   Tel Aviv   (03.16.18)
Does the state of Israel want to see the haredim kidnap, burn Arab children alive and then celebrate the ugly crime in the forest, with bonfire and all the trappings!? Is this Israel's standard for being a light upon the nations? Is Israel a truly Jewish state following Halacha or an evil secular entity besmirching the honor of Judaism? This is a question I pose for our pork-devouring Defense Minister?
11. I am haredi from head to toe , the Torah, not Zionism, is
Ron Steinberg ,   Tel Aviv   (03.16.18)
my life. Zionism is a passing summer cloud, but the Torah remains for ever and ever.
12. Stop funding Israel and Jews will be forced to make peace
Steve Benassi ,   Duluth, Minnesota   (03.16.18)
13. 11th commandment?
BBB   (03.16.18)
There is no 11th commandment to pay Jews for not fighting.
In fact, reading the accounts of the ancients it seems most of them had to fight and, thankfully, they won.
14. # 12 Bologna.
BBB   (03.16.18)
President Trump is 100% on the mark by ending funding the terrorists pals.
That alone will help save Jewish lives.
( and indirectly also save some pals lives in the process.)
15. # 8 Neither are you a bona fide Jew
BBB   (03.16.18)
Bon fide Muslim who lacks the courage to move from the safety of Jewish Israel.
16. # 5 BS
BUILD BABY BUILD !!   (03.16.18)
Yesterday a young man and his assistant came to our house for an air duct cleaning.
( We live in America.)
He was an Israel who'd spent 5 years in the IDF and still carried pictures of he and his company in his phone.
He was proud to be a soldier as is his sister.
I remind you Israel is a tiny nation and while being a volunteer is admirable, wont necessarily help to fill the ranks for a successful army.
I also want to remind you that the IDF has a stellar record of success.
Don't knock success.
Thankfully, smarter folks than you or I made these rules to secure Israel's survival and her continued success.
17. # 1 Civil war when Heridim wont serve?
BBB   (03.16.18)
Nonsense if the only living they can find is the IDF they'll rush to enlist.
18. Wrong.
M. Davison ,   Raanana   (03.18.18)
Between 1949, when Ben-Gurion made his deal with the Devil, until 1977, when the Likud came to power, the original 400 exemptions increased to a total of 800. It was only after the Likud came to power and needed Haredi parties that the number increased to what it is today... over 60,000.

Ben-Gurion made as many mistakes as any other human being, but the present situation falls directly in the lap of Likud governments.

Give praise where praise is due, and criticize those who deserve criticism.
19. Stop funding Haredim, reward soldiers instead
Ilana Kraus ,   kfar sava   (03.20.18)
Ramon's conclusion is unfortunately correct, despite his logical and equitable suggestions.
