as for shalit being an incapable soldier, olmert ought to be careful given his press officer credentials in the idf. he did no combat. sitting in hamas jail for 5 years takes a lot of strenght which shalit has. most of us could not do it.

as for idf training, olmert may have a point. it has to be tougher with recrutis to convert nerds into rough tough fighers, not just long distance hikers.

the judges gave olmert a reduced sentence in that he was pm , a lawyer like them and expression of regret for what he did. olmert has and had no such regret. he more or less told the judges they are full of it.


olmert is a first rate liar and crook but has written an interesting book on israeli leaders of all types.
