1. An Alternate all Inclusive Memorial Day Service is Fine

It would be understandable to prevent a memorial service if it is provocative and hurts mourners' feelings as well as being a security risk. This is NOT the case here. The mixed Palestinian-Israeli Parents' Circle mourn their family members, who were killed in the various wars and terror activities. The pain exists for both sides, who wish that the bloodshed would end and who work for peace. Why is this viewed as a threat to Israel's security? Both sides share a common grief. They should have the right to mourn the way they see fit.
Had they wanted to a present an all-inconclusive ,non-provocative service, they could have done so on a different day (say the anniversary of Rabin's murder) but instead they choose to do so specifically on Memorial Day in order to be divisive and provocative.
The ideology and strategy behind an event like this is clear, and it has nothing to do with a simple display of shared grief. The idea is to undermine, delegitimize and hurt Israel by politicizing and hence desecrating the days meant to celebrate its successes and grieve its losses.
7. An eye for an eye leaves the entire world blind!

I get the fact that there is a military closure for Memorial Day and Independence Day. Nu, shoyin! It isn't new we have military closures during all of our holidays and during periods of time when there are tensions. What all y'all criticizing here are failing to remember is this: 1. on an ordinary day most of these people just drive into Israel from the West Bank for work, for shopping and to visit with their family and friends inside Israel. 2. this one goes out to those righteous ones going on about how this ceremony disrespects the memory of fallen soldiers. Yes indeed you are correct in forgetting that the people organizing this ceremony are themselves bereaved families. Surprise! bereavement crosses political lines in the State of Israel. There are fallen left winger soldiers just as there are fallen right winger soldiers. The organizers of this ceremony are NOT asking for special treatment or consideration as so many right wing bereaved families do. They are saying "We get it. You have the right to your ceremony the way you would like to have it. But we have rights too. We have planned an alternative ceremony so as not to disturb yours." **** In a real and true democracy in a vibrant and strong democracy there is room for both ceremonies. The fact that the ruling majority is nixing this ceremony says "We the ruling majority are insecure and feel that we MUST impose our beliefs on you!" It makes me sad.
