„During the first years of the war the Christian Poles of Warsaw lived in constant fear of łapankas [surrounding an area of the city and arresting everybody who happens to be in the street there] and executions. At the same time the ghetto Jews were enjoying themselves. They had something to celebrate. After all they were living in "an autonomous province” they had negotiated from the Germans". She made some valid points: 1. No łapankas in the Warsaw ghetto, 2. No summary executions there. 3. Therefore, no fear of either. 3. Judenrat self-government. Of course, all of this came to an end when the ghetto got liquidated some three years into the war. Kurek pushed the "enjoying themselves" part too far - after all, the death rate in the ghetto due to malnutrition and disease was alarmingly high. Nonetheless, her main points seem OK.
