Once the secrets of the s300 and s400 missiles are unlocked Russia's air defences will be unlocked too. Selling it to Syria will only hasten this process. Maybe Israeli special forces can 'capture one alive'. If the Syrians are manning it anything is possible.
5. Selling? on oil platform account?????
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto -Kiriat Gat   (04.15.18)
Russian motives an behavior in interest of oil platform will pay off all?Russia can afford to keep this operation in Syria???
They don't get it and Russian armament capability will be tested, as can be take it out any time by Israel or USA, preferable in its shipping package to save some labor cost.
6. It wouldn't be the first time.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (04.15.18)
During the War of Attrition between 1969 and 1971, Israeli commandos crossed the Suez and captured a Soviet radar installation and flew it home.
7. States are cold beast trying to defend their interests
Tehraniporou   (04.15.18)
Chiefly money and the attendant jobs in these businesses. Arms sales are dirty and disgusting be it for Israel rafael or the Russians the us or the Iranians. Russians sell old garbage the real challenge will come from Chinese systems. this is a necessary evil hopefully one day arms deals will be prohibited and instead all major conferences will be opened by the welcoming arms of bar zomer Eva green and all other sexy beauties that will incentivise connections between all :) !
8. Silly, sillier, silliest.
Yael Camhi ,   Santiago de Chile   (04.15.18)
One photo caption says "A S-300 missile system the Russians sold to Syria" the next one says "S-300 missiles. It’s unlikely the Russians will sell it to the Syrians".

The "newer model" is called S-400, and it's already on Syrian soil at the Hmeimim airbase and the Tartus naval base.
9. The Russian people are getting ripped off
naro   (04.15.18)
The Russian people are getting ripped off by Syria and Iran. They have no money to pay for the missiles and are not capable of operating them properly.
10. S-300 can keep IAF on ground in Israel, no more take-offs

in the region... And reminiscent of heavy Kremlin involvement in Egypt & Syria prior to 1973.

Keep in mind that Putin is obsessed with correcting the setbacks the Kremiln received during the Cold War... from the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, the 1973 Yom Kippur War confrontation with the Nixon Admin, to the more recent overturning of pro-Moscow regimes in the Balkans, Iraq & Libya by the US.

American, European - and Israeli - headaches with Putin are not over by any stretch.

Israel goes up against the S-300 in ariel exercises in Greece and they have no doubt trained with the Indian one so I am sure the IAF has worked out ways of getting around at least older versions of the S-300.
14. S300 in Syrian Hands is a dead loss
Ezekiel Haim ,   London   (04.15.18)
Like the Syrian mig23 versus the Israeli F16, The S300 will be shown to be how ineffective it is.Better for Russia to sell as many as they can before their utter failure in Syrian Hands.
15. The S-300 is more primitive than what was used on April 14?
pogohere ,   Port Townsend   (04.16.18)
". . . but America's and Israel's knowledge of the system’s features has made it possible for Western countries to develop ways of disrupting and neutralizing its abilities." The Syrians managed to down an Israeli plane over Israel recently and apparently knocked out 73 out of about 101 missiles shot at them by the US and its allies. All this was done with what shall I call it, Soviet junk? S-300 is just chopped liver?
16. Israelis lose f16 to old soviet weapons
Its ,   NYC   (04.16.18)
The author made no sense. The SAA just shot down a Israeli F 16 and the US tomahawks were intercepted by a old 70's technology given to them by the russians. So he states the israelis and the US are not afraid of the system yet they never bothered to go near the system in Syria for they are all access denial weapons. You can't have it both ways...funny the americans didn't think it was a good idea for to pass near any russian S system in syria the radar over the russian facilities were clear during the last attack indicating the author believes they aren't afraid of the system is absolute BS.
17. S-300 missiles to Syria
lazerbenabba ,   London England   (04.16.18)
Whether it be the S300/S400/S500 or any other Ssss whatever the Russian dictatorship sells to their Arab clients they will have to run even faster to prevent the Israelis always being a step or two ahead in overcoming any threat from that effectively bankrupt haven of corruption.
18. Anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists' severe IQ problems
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv   (04.16.18)
Anti-Semitic internet trolls and conspiracy theorists with a proclivity for expressing pro-Russian, pro-Syrian and pro-Iranian and anti-Israeli and-American beliefs seem to be unable to understand intellectually that they are contradicting themselves.

You say that Russian made S-300s have downed most of the American, British and French missiles recently launched against the animal Assad's chemical weapons arsenal.

Question: HOW can Syria BOTH down these missiles with S-300s and yet NOT HAVING THEM in their arsenal?

How can you down missiles with S-300s if you have no S-300s in your arsenal?
Or am I missing something?

Because the article DOES say/Ron Ben-Yishai DOES say:

"Syria has been TRYING TO BUY these missiles (S-300s) from Russia for a long time, and the Iranians have been willing to fund the deal, but RUSSIA has AVOIDED SELLING the missiles to Syria due to Israeli and American pressure."
19. ss300

Bulgaria, Romania both have these missiles.....Israel has already been training
in these countries .
20. Russian always on wrong side of history
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto -Kiriat Gat   (04.17.18)
Not enough 1967/73 wars to associate themselves only on geopolitical basis of interest , as Arabs are evidently no reliable associate, donate their armament ( how Syria is able to purchase) for target training destruction ( recycling) instead to associate instead with 4 Western Power in order to impose peace, to behave as Illuminating Power which bring peace and not extended war, impose TRUTH AND RIGHTEOUS ,no TWISTED IDEOLOGY base on lies and brutal power to solve the difference of opinion( very compiling trace close to Islam) as the Russian history lesson is Truth Finder GPS Syndrome, AFRAID TO CONFRONT THE TRUTH by using only the brain and not the hands.
21. May the cost of these systems be a waste for them
TSvi ,   portland   (04.17.18)
One can only hope the author is correct. New high tech arms for Iran and Syria are indeed worrisome. But it would be ironic if the cost of these systems burden the economies of Iran and Russia in a way that out weighs their advantages to Iran.
22. VALDI WOULD NEVER HIS TROOPS W/O AOR DEFENSE COVER ANYWAY
Iranian Jew ,   LALA LAND   (04.19.18)
S-300 OR 400 OR 500 were there from long before. He is just trying to cover his behind by saying that he will deploy them. Putin is on last leg, and this war is bankrupting Russia and Iran. China is keeping them both alive for now.
23. Who let the Bots out, who who who?

Ron ben-Yishai writes columns like a Soviet war commissar under the communist party, always optimistic, propagandistic, lifting the spirits about Israel's strength, and the relative feeble state of our enemies.

Sounds like this is a Netanyahu thing ordered like the deal he wanted with Arnon Mozes.

"..It should be taken seriously not only because the Russians want a painful retaliation against the American, Western and Israeli forces in the region, but primarily because the Russians have a habit of using every situation to increase their foreign currency incomes at the expense of their allies’ distress..." - ISN'T IT WHAT US AND ISRAEL HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS
