I am not sure this is a correct analysis , Assad appreciates what the Iranian did but once he defeated his Sunni people decisively he would like the Iranian to leave because he doesnot want Israel to take him seriously and wants Saudi Arabia to be happy so he can benefit economically from the Gulf .
So the more Israel hits the Iranians and their proxies the better for him and for the Russians .

This dictator is not concerned if remainder of the population remain alive. Hundreds of thousands are starving. Both Russia and Iran and hebollah are supporting this regime.
