1. We did not need it, Bibi did, for his doss friends
doda   (07.24.18)
2. The Jews have a state - Get over it
MadDad ,   Johannesburg   (07.24.18)
Everything can be criticized- by the left and by the right
Now that the Jews have a state we can look after our own kind
3. Your days are numbered in Canaan/Palestine?
Palestinian   (07.24.18)
Jews cannot get over it .. the fact that even Abraham was not born in Canaan but was an emigrate. Jews hate Balfore who illegally in 1917 provided them the homes of the Palestinians to live in them. Jews hate the West, East, Palestinians, Arabs, Jews and the rest of the world. ( for the hopebto be the boss of the world one day)

Jews want to have it all...perhaps in few years when Jews are expelled from the " promise land" .. Jews will regret their zionism days in Palestine.

Therefore, indeed your days are numbered in Palestine.
4. good article, reasonable analysis
Rafi ,   US   (07.24.18)
5. Apartheid Now!
miki ,   jerusalem   (07.24.18)
6. USUAL YEMINI NEGATIVITY
Ezekiel Haim ,   London   (07.24.18)
Most of the countries criticising this legislation are RACIST undemocratic ANTISEMITIC countries. They have criticised the legislation to give lip service to Mr ABBAS who is a holocaust denier and an antisemites.Liberal Jews in Europe and the USA joined in the criticism due to the increasing assimilation problems in their communities.Israel is a democracy and should be respected like any other democracy.Israel should listen to its own voters and representatives and not to its enemies and detractors with their own agendas.
7. This law was long overdue.
olim hadashim ,   Tel Aviv   (07.24.18)
8. Jewish state & Democracy irreconcilable, period
Khalid Amayreh ,   Occupied Jerusalem   (07.24.18)
9. Imagine France declaring itself a Catholic state!
Shela Ramon ,   Tel Aviv   (07.24.18)
10. How can a non-Jew be equal in a Jewish state?
Noam Amir ,   Haifa   (07.24.18)
11. Mr.
Zeev ,   Netanya   (07.24.18)
Did you notice the NYT tweet? For every act, they moved away from the truth to make it sounding offensive. "Critical groups" sounds as "ALL critical groups" while it's all about anti-IDF activists. Should those be allowed by the state to approach schools? I don't think so. It's not access to the Supreme Court was blocked, but direct access, skipping the district courts. The language of the 1996 "Surrogacy law" effectively was already banning same-sex couples.
12. This was decades in arriving. The religious birth...
Iron Butterfly ,   Duluth, MN   (07.24.18)
the secular get abortions. Do the math.
13. Israel is a Jewish country
Gene   (07.24.18)
Maybe it is enough to be hypocrites like our "teachers" - Europeans, and name the things for what they are? Even if somebody doesn't like it? Israel has days off on Shabbat, commemorates Holocaust and speaks Hebrew. And that what minority groups in Israel are also forced to do, either they like it or not. Because Israel is a Jewish country.
14. The law makes clear no Pal right of return
Sam ,   Montreal   (07.24.18)
Arabs were always waiting for the return putting an end to Jewish Israel. Arabs always thought a frightened Israel would hand over the country. It's not going to
happen whether the Arabs and leftist traitors like it or not.
15. if its so bad whose civil rights are harmed by this bill?
zionist forever   (07.24.18)
This law does not take away anybodies civil rights what it does is puts into Basic Law that Israel is the nation state of the Jewish people and why not? What this will do is make it much more difficult for any future government to support the idea of the countries identity to state of the people. This naturally upsets arabs & druze who all dream of one day Israel being a state of the people rather than a Jewish one so this shatters their dream.
It also makes it much harder for the Pals to push their ROR demand so arabs are naturally against it for those reasons also. At the end of the day all this bill does is enshrine in Basic Law the fact Israel is a Jewish state, protects the national symbols & makes hebrew the official language it doesn't damage anybodies civil rights Jew or non Jew.
16. We need it, we demand it, we've got it!
(07.24.18)
17. RIGHT VS. LEFT
STEVE ,   JERUSALEM   (07.24.18)
The Holy Zohar states the "The Side of Holiness" (Sitra D'Kedusha) is on THE RIGHT while "The Side of Impurity" (Sitra Achara) is on THE LEFT!!!!!!!!! Need I say more???????
18. Why?
Lidia ,   Rishon Lezion   (07.24.18)
As everybody knows the Israeli haters are members of our Parliament. If there is such strong bond between Druze people and Israel , why can't they join the Parliament instead of those whose provocations and incitement to violence have become our obnoxious enemies?????
19. Israel is the Jewish State
Jake ,   Petach Tikva   (07.24.18)
the law was needed due to the court judges that were ignoring that Israel was created as a Jewish State.
20. good law
David   (07.24.18)
There is no cause in the world that is helped by a picture of Oren Hazan taking a selfie in support of it. Even worse when his underpants are showing. I wonder if he is really a politician, or a "Borat" type character who will eventually release a film.

That said, the law is right, and necessary given the demographic threats. We should establish in jurisprudence, what we (mostly all) hold to be true-- that Israel is the Jewish homeland. If we insist our enemies say it, we should have no trouble saying it ourselves.

I feel sorry for the Druze represented in this article. This law is clearly not directed against them, and if they misinterpret it as such, it is unfortunate. They are a part of the land, that is recognized universally as well.
21. To invoke the predictable anti-Israel reactions ...
Yael Camhi ,   Santiago, Chile.   (07.24.18)
... makes no sense at all. Yemini should give a compelling argument agaist it. Since he is automatically against whatever he understands as being "the Right", he cannot fathom why this one is necessary.
22. The Druze lay down their lives to defend Israel I'm ashamed
DOV ,   USA   (07.24.18)
This nationality bill should not discriminate against the 20% minority. Now Israel risks making enemies within it's own borders. How will this bill improve the lives of all Israelis. I don't see it.
23. One of the most important piece of legislation ever passed
David ,   New york   (07.24.18)
You darn better believe this legislation was vital
The future of Israel depends on it
10 years from now, the EU and possibly the US (if we get another obama) will consider Israel as a Jewish state to be "racist" and "apartheid"
We will be forced to take in 5 million Palestinian Arab "refugees"
And inside Israel many on the left will think this is "the moral thing to do"
Think that is crazy?
If I told you in the 1980's that Yitzhak Rabin will import 75,000 PLO terrorists into Israel and give them machine guns, you also would have thought its nuts.
But craziness knows no bounds
24. As a zionist I can tell that this right and a manoeuvering
Tehraniporou   (07.24.18)
Bibi will have a lasting and polarizing impact on Israel's international standing. They succeeded in making Israel a partisan issue in the US, which was unthinkable. Israel is the Jewish and democratic state, with this law it doesn't affirm anything, it looks like a teenager that one needs to reassure and cuddle. So more seriously, the least that could have been done would have been to see Shaked parading and defending the law in a revealing attire.
25. Nationality Law is very positive and much needed
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.24.18)
The Nationality Law doesn't discriminate against anyone. Even Yemini admits this. It is very positive and much needed. Which is why the vast majority supports it.

The law protects Israel from the very real possibility a destructive leftist government could declare our Law of Return and even Zionism itself discriminatory.

The opinion of leftist diaspora groups, such as the ADL and AJC, are worthless. These groups vehemently supported Obama, the most anti-Israel president in American history. They regularly attack Israel's best friends from Rush Limbaugh to Mike Huckabee and Trump. They are also on the wrong side of every major Israeli issue from Oslo to Disengagement.
26. It isn't Israel's fault the media lies about the new law
Jake   (07.24.18)
and misconstrues its contents.
The Guardian headline reads "Israel axes Arabic as official language".

But Paragraph 4C of the new law stated explicitly:
"The status given to the Arabic language before this law came into effect will not be harmed."

That means Arabic, which has been recognized by law as an official language since the British Mandate, is still official.

If journalists choose to misinterpret or hide the facts, or fail to even read the source documents they are writing about, that is their major malfunction.
Not Israel's.
27. its not the law per se which is troubling
tomer ,   jerusalem   (07.24.18)
b
ut the "thinking" behind this law what is worrying most.
The law is completly unnecessary. In the 4 years process this law has been
developed a few issues (which lucklily were later changed) show a growing
group of politicians going the wrong way. There were elements which were
over- nationalistic ,even facistic and completly unjewish. A vibrant democracy we claim to be ( "light to all nations") has been heavly "knocked"
by people who resemble "dark historical events" in europe.
We are becoming an egocentric ,or ethnocentric nation, ruled by "fear" instead being a creative ,visionary nation which embraces all citizens.A "worldcentric nation. To be a "start-up" nation with tremendous technological
achievements is not enough . Our cognitive development is going backwards. At least within certain political parties. Not a very promising look out for our childrens future. And the kids are already deciding on their own......israel may loose them.
28. To rub the world's noses in it, of course!
Tom   (07.24.18)
29. Jewish rule in Israel. Arab rule in 22 other countries.
Jake   (07.24.18)
30. To answer Yemini: The law was needed for One State Solution
Jake   (07.24.18)
Post-Oslo annexation of Judea & Samaria will result in a 67% Jewish majority state. In any normal Democracy a 1/3 minority should not be able to rule over a 2/3 majority, but the Middle East isnt normal, so the law was needed for this eventuality.
