In the USA, the size and influence of the Conservative movement are declining at an alarming rate. The movement does not need the government of Israel or the Rabbanut to "declare a war of extermination on non-Orthodox Judaism." Conservative is already extinguishing itself through assimilation and apathy. I am surprised that anyone would try to repeat in Israel this failed Amercan experiment in lite Judaism.

Israel is a theocracy, this is undeniable. The rabbinate has powers that are impossible to break.These powers were given to the Rabbinate by the Rabbinate itself. This is the definition of a theocracy.
Whether Orthodox, Reform, Conservative or whatever, unless there is a separation of chuch and state in Israel the situation will not change.

All these terms are created by people who choose for themselves how Jewish they think are. The Ultra Orthodox are more Jewish nor do they know the Torah more or better than regular Jews who study Torah. GOD does measure a person by "how Jewish they are" For GOD sees our hearts and know our minds. As written: David was a man who was after GOD's own heart. This tells us David loved GOD, even though David was not perfect.

So when it comes to marriage, The Rabbi job is to marry the Jewish couple under the Chupah. Not to judge how Jewish they are. If the Ultra Orthodox
continues to deny Jewish couples from being what they consider legal marriage. Then the Ultra Orthodox is breaking the Law of Marriage.

Dr Hess is right. I attend an orthodox shul and was married by an orthodox rabbi. I am not orthodox. To treat a Rabbi this way is inexcusable. What was done here was nothing more than a PR-stunt to make the ultra orthodox feel good. Israel had a HUGE PROBLEM with diaspora Jewry and this mean spirited waking up of a rabbi at 5:30AM shows that who is minding the insane asylum called Israel when the police, the arm of justice can impose on a person not threatening to hurt anyone like this. As president Rivlin states: the way in which this was done was way beyond the pale of decency. I live in San Francisco. I grew up in a frum community. I know of VERY FEW people including rabbis who would approve of the way this was done. Investigate? Sure! But to humiliate a rabbi this way. SICK!!! Go ask an Chabad rabbi if you think I am wrong.

I was for Reform when I was young, I remember those people calling to my home to ask me for money all the time. Bunch of crooks.

My ancestors in poland were neither Reform, nor Orthodox, nor Conservative, they were pure genuine authentic Jews - as simple as that.
