1. Well put Noah
Boaz ,   AKL   (09.01.18)
They call themselves culturally Jews. Any connection between them and Judaism is purely coincidental.
2. Jews in Diaspora are fooling themselves
Tova   (09.01.18)
It is not for American Jews or any other Jew to decide Judaism must keep up with the times and change. GOD is the Soverign King of Israel and HE has decided how things are to be. This rebellion of Jews against what GOD commands will only bring down the demise of the Jews in the Diaspora.

Interfaith marriage has nothing to do with Judaism. It is people telling GOD how the world should be. This is a rebellious act. For Jews who have never visited Israel have no idea what Judaism is and the reason GOD created a people known as the "chosen people". They the chosen people began
with Abraham Isaac and Jacob to spread the message of GOD.

If they don't like what GOD has commanded they can take it up with HIM
GOD gave every person "free will" which is to choose GOD or choose the world. The creation of Israel is GOD.

The Apostle Paul taught that whoever believes in GOD whether Jew or Gentile are ONE - His meaning was that when a Jew and Gentile marry
they are Jews and both follow Judaism.

Christianity came much later. When Jesus/Yeshua was crucified. The faith
was called "The Way" - In ancient times the a person said believe in "The Way" it meant they were following GOD. It wasn't until many many generations later "The Way" was translated to Christianity.

When the Messiah returns. They will be NO Orthodox. Hassidic, Reform, Eagletarian, Conservative Jew or whatever Jews what to create.

It will be Judaism. the way GOD intended it to be. GOD will not ask what
demonination you are. GOD will not favour one group over another.

GOD will only ask "Are you for HIM or Against HIM.

For a Jew who has never been to Israel You are missing out on your own life. For the Jews who make Aliyah or have lived in Israel for a number of years. Worked and truly open your eyes, you soul you understand the freedom GOD gave you.
3. bravo! good article.

4. The irony of it.
Reality Check   (09.01.18)
On the one hand the writer rails against Reform accepting Jews by patrilineage and on the other argues that Paul wanted to change Judaism by adjusting to modern circumstances.
The reality however is exactly the opposite. Until the Roman occupation Jewish identity was by patrilineage but Jewsih mainstream adapted to the times and changed to matrilineage so as to accept the children born as a result of mass rape of Jewsih women by Roman soldiers.
BTW Paul was not trying to adapt Judaism but rather trying to get Jesus accepted as the Messiah.
5. stop it
paul malukont ,   los osos, california   (09.01.18)
I'm not asking them to change. I just want them to not deny our place in the community. You don't have to sit with me or talk to me, just don't demean or deny.
After all, rabbinic Judaism is way different from Biblical. Change happens.
For what it's worth, I am Jewish by the most demanding definition and I was born in the Holocaust, lost over 100 family members, was raised speaking Yiddish, was once fluent in Hebrew and have studied our history and our religion pretty much as deeply and diligently as most any lay person and many religious.
We'e not observant but we are Jewish and we each get to decide that for ourselves.
I recall a great man's wonderful name - Achad H'Am.
6. The "fuss" as you describe it, is nothing but political play
(09.01.18)
of the leftist, "progressive& enlightened" knee-jerk, mindless Jewish mob, that has "democracy" as it's first& only commandment (without really understanding that term)
I describe myself as "militant secular" but I fully agree with author's view.
7. It's all for the best: lately things are crystallizing in
(09.01.18)
both domestic and diaspora- politics.
We're becoming stronger in our convictions by the day, while the opponents of Jewish right to all aspects of life in this country are being flashed out...
This is but one minor aspect/incident.
I'm stating this as a fierce atheist.
8. excellent opinion piece
C   (09.01.18)
most reform jews are barely jews.
most never visit israel, the jewish state.
reform jews are increasingly siding with israel's enemies.

reform jews believe that they have the right to dictate to israel how
she conduct her internal affairs.
they do not join the idf, do not pay taxes and do not make aliya.

most jews who perished during the shoa were orthodox.
reform judaism, which was born in germany, did not save them.

the reform falsely believe that assimilation will save them.
it never did and never will.
only the force of arms and the sovereign jewish state can save
the jewish people. without israel, those in the diaspora would
be in much greater danger. many know this, but are too afraid
to admit it.
9. Reform Jews & all others should learn lessons of history
C   (09.01.18)
hitler and his ilk did not care whether a jew was reform, orthodox, atheist,
observant, or not. hitler wanted to wipe out all jews, and he almost
succeeded in doing so.
hitler's hatred of the jews was complex, but it was essentially "race"
based. he and other nazis believed that jews were vermin and that
their children would grow up to be enemies of germans and other
teutonic ethnicists. hence, he persecuted even jews who had converted.
jews need to consider this clearly before they condemn the jewish
state, the sole protector of all jews.
10. Truth of matter: Zionism is secular, atheist and unsemitic
Shela Ramon ,   Tel Aviv   (09.01.18)
Islam is closer to real Judaism than all Jews of our time
11. As usual Klieger is wrong
Stan ,   Israel   (09.01.18)
1. The Women of the Wall are Reform AND Conservative.
2.These are people who live in Israel and among them are many who were born in Israel.

Most Israelis know nothing about Reform and Conservative Judaism. They have grown up with the traditions of their forefathers, which I may add may vary quite a lot depending where they came from. The laws of Judaism are based on tradition. How is it that Sephardi Jews are allowed to eat legumes during Passover and Ashkenazi Jews are not? It's all a matter of tradition. Even among the ultra religious sects in Israel there are different traditions. So what is right and what is wrong. It's all a matter of tradition. According to Jewish tradition, God created the universe 5778 years ago. How many of you still believe this to be true?
How many false messiahs have there been? Bar Kochba, Shabtai Tzvi, and there may have been others. Chabad believe that their Rabbi is the Messiah. So what makes them different from evangelical Christians?
Spinoza was excommunicated for heresy. To this day there are Jews who do not accept the philosophy of Rambam. Almost 200 years ago The age of Enlightenment arrived. Now there are Jews who believe that women have the same rights as men, not only in the home and in society,, but in a house of prayer as well. There is nothing more beautiful than a family celebrating a bar mitzvah together in their synagogue.Sitting together, going up to the Torah together and praying together. Do you really believe that God rejects us?
Many Orthodox Jews don't keep the 10 Commandments. Except for Shabbat I keep all the rest, so I am as good a Jew as all of you .
12. Irony
Beer Baron   (09.01.18)
The very definition of irony: the same Reform Movement that that wants an egalitarian prayer space at the Western Wall also want to give all of East Jerusalem to the (including the Western Wall) to the Arabs under the two state solution. Consequently, Jews will no longer be allowed to pray there. Brilliant!
13. Reform "Judaism" is not a Judaism
Gene   (09.01.18)
They should name it something different to avoid the confusions.
14. What is wrong with letting people doing what they want?
Avi L.   (09.01.18)
What is wrong with not letting black clad bearded talebans dictate to the rest of the people their own interpretation?
15. Reform is just another leftist identity politics franchise
David ,   New york   (09.02.18)
Straight out of Saul alinski’s “rules for radicals”:
It’s divide and conquer. These activists could care less about the kotel, the temple that was or the religion that is. It’s power. Create an identiy (since when was “reform” an identity - being in religious and unidentified is a LACK of identity) and then make that group angry and wahlah you’ve got power.

I’m a little sick of it
16. HASHEMs will have the last WORD !.
Arn.Sweden ,   Sweden   (09.02.18)
MALAKI Chapter 4 Verses -

4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances. 5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of Jehovah come. 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers [c]to the children, and the heart of the children [d]to their fathers; lest I come and smite the [e]land with a [f]curse.

Comments -

The Great and terrible day of HASHEM is the 3rd World war(Ezekiel chapter 38-39).

Further

Paul the Apostle of Jesus the Christ,
did not Preach Judaism But Messianism/Christianity(Prophetical Judaism).

WOW!
Very special of YNet to publish Noah Klieger's article very special of Noah Klieger to adress a true problem in realistic terms and seeing through the political usage of religion.
18. Let's examine this carefully
Zvika ,   Israel   (09.02.18)
It's not totally clear which parts of the Jewish Torah are accepted by Reform / Conservative Jews. One thing is nearly certain: the Talmud is not considered a to hold too much, if any, authority among them. At best, it's a quaint old book containing anecdotes and some Jewish history. But it's legal imperatives are not considered obligatory. So, it's reasonable to call the Talmud "an Orthodox book."
If so, why do these Reform/Conservative women want to pray with a minyan. A requirement that originates in the Orthodox Talmud. And those black Orthodox boxes they insist on wearing. They're straight out of the Talmud. And those who insist on Rosh Chodesh services? The entire Jewish calendar that specifies when to observe Rosh Chodesh (and all of the holidays!) -- yup, it's all only from the Orthodox Talmud.
And most of all, the Kotel itself. The only mention of the importance of the Kotel is solely -- you guessed it -- in the Orthodox Talmud and Midrashim. And incidentally, the Kotel's significance is due to the fact that the two Temples stood on the mount on the other side. How many Reform and Conservative Jews wish to see that slaughterhouse restored? And why, oh why are they pushing a totally Orthodox Jewish agenda?
19. Today Judaism is not the one of Moses times
Avi L.   (09.02.18)
Nor the one of the second Temple
20. I give thanks
this human ,   Notmdwhumanhands   (09.04.18)
to the One that is holding on to me, the One from whom none are able to pluck me from His hand.
21. Spiritual counterfeiters
Bar Star ,   Jerusalem   (09.04.18)
Both Reform and Conservative religions are anti-Torah from A to Z.
They reject a divinity of Torah, morality of Torah by condoning homosexuality, promiscuity and abortions. They reject lifestyle commandments kashrut, Shabbat and laws of family purity. They reject settling the Land of Israel. Their temples are strongholds of JStreet, JVP and other anti-Zionist organizations. They might deceive a few Israelis but not American olim. They should be totally ignored.
22. Another progressive political org oppressing the majority

23. Very well said.

24. A lot of Reform Jews make alyah. They are from South America
ex-oleh chadash   (09.05.18)
not America.

25. There are extremists everywhere
ex-oleh chadash   (09.05.18)
women of the wall does not represent all Reform. They are a sect inside Reform movement. I think they really don't want to pray, they just want to make noise.

I'm from Reform background. I have never heard about this movement before, this is new to me.
26. disciples and followers of Saul of Tarsus?
(09.06.18)
disciples and followers of Satan, you mean. Not all Christians are Anti Semites.
Most of my friends are Christians, as I live in a South American country; they are nice people.
27. Death Rattle of a failed belief system called “Reform”
TheGate2Assimilation ,   Jerusalem   (09.06.18)
28. End of 2 centuries of leading Jews to Assimilation
PutTheLightsOut ,   Jerusalem   (09.06.18)
Jews of America and Germany ran not walked away from Judaism
They will never succeed here people regard “Reform” “Conservative “
As “Mickey Mouse “ Judaism Refirm is more interested in its title “Reform”
Than of Judaism they are just one more Ethical Culture rabid Feminist/LGBT/Tansgender Atheist Unitarian group with a dash of misspoken Hebrew
29. Extreme People
Aaron ,   NYC   (09.09.18)
The Reform movement is as extreme as the black hats that they criticize all the time. They all should understand we all all one people
30. Transportation Engineer
Richard Dougherty ,   Los angeles, USA   (09.10.18)
Paul of Tarsus was an Orthodox Jewish Rabbi-a Pharisee, who had a conversion on the way to Damascus to persecute followers of Jesus of Nazareth. King Herod wanted to simplify the Jewish religion and adapt to the
spirit of the times. King Herod (not a jew) kept dietary laws and fast days.
