Next it would desecrate shabbat - with an influx of neatly 35,000 tourists a city has to offer restaurants and amenities open for the visitors plus available public transport and night life and a means to offer entertain - all this Tel Aviv offers.Whilst I appreciate the special significance of Jerusalem you can't have your cake and eat it- Tel Aviv is used to hosting events of this size.

zionist forever   (09.14.18)
Apart from the international politics and undoubtedly some boycotts from countries who are more hostile toward Israel but Jerusalem is also the religious centre of the country and Eurovision takes place over Shabbat and the feelings of the residents must be considered.
A big event like that over Shabbat would have been just tempting trouble from the religious sector and Jerusalem is so politically sensitive it would invite political trouble and when ts all over nobody would know or care who won Eurovision it would be remembered for the year that was tainted by religious and political demonstrations and would be disastrous for Israel's image.
12. Regev is wrong.
rom ,   israel   (09.15.18)
Merely from the cultural standpoint, Jerusalem is much, much less suited than Tel Aviv for a pop music event like the Eurovision Song Contest.
13. Eurovision.
lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (09.15.18)
I for one would be so happy if that dreadful, boring Eurovision was sent packing to the dustbin of history.
Rather than being a celebration of a nations musical talent it has become a proxy for promoting xeophobia, strife and we are better than you.
Israel do yourself a favour and say thanks but no thanks as it will become a platform for more bashing of the Jews/Israel as when Israel won the last calamitous competition.
Where is your pride?
How dare you let the organisation dictate and ignore the desire of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel to be refused the rightful venue to host.
14. There's a much more appropriate place
Richie Goldstein ,   Israel   (09.15.18)
to host this event. Near the Dead Sea. It's called Sodom....
