1. We are 63 not yet on pension
Boaz   (09.22.18)
On Wednesday we were on standby, no one was allowed to leave the bases.
Thursday we knew something is cooking. Friday we were ordered to take positions. It was obvious that the war will erupt.
No surprises. Just plain cowardice. What will the world say if we fire first.
2. Changes
Ralph ,   Houston   (09.22.18)
Warfare has changed and you have layers and layers of different electronic observation devices. The scenario from 1973, is almost impossible.

A future major conflict will include cyber, brilliant cheap precision weapons, space, and eventually robotics.
3. Rehashing already "irrelevant" war. Pointless. New world &
(09.22.18)
new technology, new "surprises" and ways to actually lose wars without one shot being fired or many actual lives lost....
It's coming fast.
"Terrorism" is an old fashioned terminology for something that is taking over the traditional warfare.
Yes we've screwed up in 73', move on.
4. tragic
C   (09.22.18)
it would seem that the high command was unable to put itself in the
enemy's place.
had the israeli high command planned this war, it would have started
it on yom kippur when the entire country is shut down.
furthermore, golda meir was to blame that she was afraid to use
a preemptive war.
elazar is the most to blame since he was unable to interpret correctly
the movements of the enemy.
5. What will the world say if we fire first? NONSENSE!
FO ,   Belgium   (09.22.18)
Declassifying this nonsense! The military and political levels got continuous and alarming information from commanders at the Suez Canal, but they were ordered to keep their mouth shut! Why? Because Israel was in a period of an electoral campaign. The slogan of the leading MAPAI party, with Golda Meyer as Prime Minister was: “YOU NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD!” So for Golda and her party it was inconceivable to order a general mobilization that could afterwards result in a loss of power (what indeed happened a few years later, because of this MEHDAL, a catastrophic blunder). Golda Meyer, Moshe Dayan and C° hoped that the Arabs will understand their “difficult situation” and postpone attacking Israel till after the elections, if at all… The rest is history with nearly 3000 death!

The report is inaccurate in saying that the IDF was taken by complete surprise. That was not true. There were clear warnings early on, including the one from Marwan Ashraf, but Eli Zeira stubbornly refused to budge from his original concept that Egypt would not go to war without weaponry from Russia who had meanwhile changed their mind, but the massed Egyptian army was the clearest sign ever. That stubbornness cost Israel nearly 3000 lives. Zeira unfortunately got off scot free instead of being punished.
7. Hypocrite lefty media and politicians.
Brad ,   USA   (09.23.18)
I do not remember anyone lamenting the fact that the Muslim terrorist countries dared attack Israel on Yom Kippor. Yet, around a quarter of a century later, when dingbat Bill Clinton sent our military into action during Ramadan, Clinton groveled before Muslims to assure them that we meant no offense to them. The next time we hit a Muslim country we should make sure we do it during Ramadan and tell the world to pound sand.
8. The truth is still not clear...
Koose E Mack ,   Great Satan   (10.08.18)
There is sufficient evidence to show that there were members of The "Intelligence Staff" that warned Golda, RIP, and the General Staff of an impending War. For whatever, reasons, they failed to act and call up The IDF in a timely manner.
9. Marwan and the Mossad
george ,   Nome, Alaska   (10.09.18)
Marwan had already warned the Mossad two time using the crying wolf strategy that he had worked out with Sadat and had gotten Israel to partially mobilize two times. The real goal was an attack on Yom Kippur and the political leadership discounted him-- all according to the book and movie called The Angle
10. it was a planned spectacle designed by Kissinger & Dayan...
ironbutterfly   (10.17.18)
ALL generals knew everything. The other high ranking officers knew bits and pieces, they knew what they needed to know. Not more, not less. That's all.
Kissinger's plan's goal was to let Egypt save their lost face and respect in 1967.
Plan was to let Egyptian army to cross Suez Canal and establish an about 10-15km wide zone along the canal. That's why 90% of israeli army personnel along the canal was given permits to go home for Yom Kippur, in order to reduce the casualties. But as soon as Egyptians crossed the canal without any resistance from Israeli army, they decided to move forward using the momentum. So, the initial plan was broken at that stage and everything was open.
