The Druze feel ,rightly or worngly ,that they can not fully trust Israel not to return the Golan Heights to Syria. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the druze ,and wise, to not demontrate an over-enthusiastic posture towards the jewish state ,because if the Golan were to be returned their lives would be in danger.In common parlance ,this is known as " hedging one's bets ." Also known as " The Survival Instinct " and honestly, who can blame them ?

By the way - despite the misleading headline, those involved are GOLAN Druze - not Israeli Druze from the Galil.

Many of the Golan Druze have relatives in Syria... and are probably being black-mailed into these phony demonstrations of support for Assad...

If ,G-D forbid ,Golan is returned to Syria in some future deal ,and that is possible, " loyal druze" would be in mortal danger.The druze are not stupid, they know this and feel insecure in Israel and have no choice but to pretend not to be loyal to Israel and to pretend to be loyal to Syria ,thay aint suicidal !

The Druze on the Golan can not afford to openly support Israel, doing so will just endanger their lives and the lives of their families in any future agreement with Syria, and the druze are not suicidal.

Any druze who resides on the Golan would have to be either stupid or crazy to openly support Israel and wave israeli flags, because if the Golan is ever returned to Syria their lives would be in grave danger and they would be punished. So I can not blame them.

In addition to what other commentators pointed out (Druzes are not suicidal...), they support Assad because he respects and protects the druze sect. Had the other sects, i.e. wahhabis, salafists etc. had their way in Syria, the first they would have slaughtered would have been the Druzes.

The Golan Druze are good folk who wish to be loyal to Israel ,but they believe that they can not afford to be openly loyal to Israel .And who can honestly blame them ?

If I were druze ,living in the israeli-controlled Golan, I would also go to the border fence and wave syrian flags .Not because I have any love for Syria, rather as an insurance policy . Not nice perhaps but understandable under the circumstances.

Golan Druze are merely doing the sensible thing ,and their future survival may depend on them going through the motions and waving syrian flags from time to time . They also have family across the border in Syria and can simply not afford to be openly loyal and loving to Israel, that would be unwise. If some people can not understand this or dislike this, too bad !

Druze are good people ,caught in a political / geopolitical military mess ,not of their own making ,they simply wish to live their lives and not endanger themselves and their relatives who reside across the border and they have little choice but to play the game .

Supporting Israel openly can be detrimental to one's health ( depending on where you are .)

Golan Druze live between an israeli rock and a syrian hard place.Their homes are often just a few metres from the border fence ,with the lofty syrian hills looking down ,menacingly, upon them. They are naturally and inevitably aware of this presence and can not be seen to be over-enthusiastic zionists ,singing Hava Nagila and waving blue and white flags ,this is not some game but ,rather, life and death.
My feeling is that the druze are not against Israel ,they are just trying to ensure their continued survival .

Syria Ethnically cleansed its Jewish population and confiscated their land and other property. Israel should announce that Golan Heights are being retained as part settlement of debt due to Syrian jews.

Give the Golan Heights back to its rightful owners, the Syrians.
