This is PRISON, right? You know, for criminals and terrorists. I don't care if they sit in their own poop for years at a time. They proved themselves unfit to live in society. They deserve bread and water and a blanket, nothing more.
The high court is sticking its nose where it doesn't belong. Prison should be something that a person would NEVER want to experience. By making it so comfortable, that aura of dread doesn't exist.
For criminals and terrorists, I suggest the Pakistani prison system. If the inmate simply survives long enough to complete his sentence, he's accomplished something remarkable.
It's prison. It's not summer camp. The idea is to make potential criminals and terrorists very afraid of going to prison. With the High Court announcing that tea and crumpets must be served at 4 PM every day, I think the bad guys are getting the wrong impression of what prison life should be.
I dare say, if a couple of the Justices on the court had their loved ones murdered in cold blood, they might not be so inclined to rush to 'improve conditions' of the people that destroyed their families.
Just another case of the court siding with the criminals instead of the victims.
That's the ticket! The court must ask all victims of criminal and terrorist attacks if prison conditions should be improved. If they say no, then that's your answer. Let the Knesset draw up a law that forces the Court to ask the permission of the victims before enacting any 'improvements' to prisoner living conditions.
Personally, if someone killed a member of my family, I'd demand that the killer be chained to a wall 24 hours a day. No TV, no radio, no newspapers, no computer. He can sleep on the floor with a blanket, long enough so that he could hang himself if he wanted to. Society owes nothing to murderers: not a cozy jail room, not religious-certified meals, not self-improvement options. Nothing.
