1. Why should Israel allow undesirables in just to please who?
MadDad ,   Johannesburg   (10.11.18)
Every democratic country has the right to decide on its laws even if they are unpopular in other countries
The strenght Israel needs to show is that it upholds the laws it passes in the that might be unpopular in another country including who can visit and where building is allowed.
Too bad if foreign governments don’t like it - who are they to say?
2. How does this crap get through YNET as journalism ?
DSM ,   USA   (10.11.18)
3. Imbecile Kleinberg always has stupid opinions. He is the
Steve Benassi ,   Minneapolis USA   (10.11.18)
one with Galut mentality of appeasing enemies like BDS crazies.
4. All of it is highlighted further because
Weebles ,   Israel   (10.11.18)
The Prime Minister was raised in the US and is a bereaved brother.
The Minister of Defense was raised in Eastern Europe
The Minister of Education is the son of American Immigrants
The Minister of Justice is the daughter of Iraqi Immigrnants
....and so on and so forth....
Meaning that the anxiety that the writer speaks about is hard wired into the nation's leadership...and they are using their own anxiety and fear to sow anxiety and fear into us regular folks ... They are using anxiety and fear as a leadership tool...and we all know fear mongering as a leadership tool never ends well.

5. Aviad: BDS doesn't only protest...
solomon ,   NY   (10.11.18)
they DO! They try to not let Israel supporters meet or demonstrate, they lie to the extreme, they physically attack Israel supporters and Jews in general, etc, etc, etc...
You close your eyes to reality and only speak of a small part of what BDS does. Won't work anymore.
6. The Shlomo Ben Ami doctrine about YSHUV or State
DANNS-SHS collabortr ,   Montevideo   (10.11.18)
Evidently Mr Kleingberg is reiterating the thinking of former professor at University of Tel Aviv Mr Shlomo Ben Ami. (professor and also ex Minister of Ehud Barak's Labor government ) Unfortunately Mr Kleingberg misses one very important point . Next year will be celebrated the 40 th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace Egypt Israel and the 25 th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace Jordan Israel Those benchmarks of International Relations make a difference very significant difference in the history of the ex Ishuv and now a sovereign State Thanks to ex PM Menahem Begin the visionary state man acussed of being terrorist and an enemy of the democracy in the start of Medinat Israel .I hope next year the government of Medinat Israel will honor the 26 march of 1979-26 of March 2019.Ex PM Menahem Begin plus ex President Sadat would have desired something like that to happen .
7. Aviad - I don't agree with you, at least not 100%
barbara ,   Haifa   (10.11.18)
If I was running this country, I would also not let any BDS operatives in the country. I am not saying that all of them could be dangerous, but there is
a slight possibility that they would be - if not physically, then figuratively.
Remember, there are countries that do not allow Israelis or Jews to enter
their countries.

Lara Alqasem's grandparents are (or was?) Arab and obviously there is evidence that she belongs to the BDS movement.

Don't we have enough enemies surrounding us - and within our borders -
do we need more to enter to cause more calamity?
8. Israel created so as not accept those supporting out killers

9. Her and her ilk physically target Jews on Western campuses
(10.11.18)
10. This person seems like they live in some elite bubble
(10.11.18)
11. more than existential anxiety, it is collective psychosis
Khalid Amayreh ,   Occupied Jerusalem   (10.11.18)
Jews need some anti-Semitism and even some "terror" to satisfy this morbidity. This is why some Jews were caught on several occasions scrawling Swastika and "death to Jews" on their own cars and property.
12. intelligent analysis
Rafi ,   US   (10.11.18)
13. the author underestimates BDS and writes BS no D.
(10.11.18)
14. food for thought
Ulla ,   Bonn   (10.11.18)
thank you very much for this article, a lot to think about!
During my time at university abroad I was only once invited to a BDS-like group and declined. They had the support of no more than a handful of people at a university of 40000 students, and were so obviously one-sided that nobody really wanted to have anything to do with them.

15. Refreshing
julia ,   haifa   (10.11.18)
This article ties together some issues in Israel, and begins to explain the question no one here can answer about Israeli-Jewish behavior.
Israeli Jews can act shamefully, but they collapse if you call them on it. Im just talking about street-level behavior - the kind that makes aliyah for Westerners so hard. Please continue to mine this theme.
16. Au contraire, mon ami! It is you, the leftist lemming-like,
(10.11.18)
trembling Jews that exhibit psychological deficiency.
By throwing out/denying entry to these despicable individuals, we demonstrate healthy dose of self assured chutzpah, but in a good way.
17. It must be tough for the Kleinberg-minded, to witness the
(10.11.18)
gradual failure of their "brothers in arms", the BDS antisemites.
18. An existential threat or not.
tiki ,   belgium   (10.11.18)
The BDS has not become an existential threat because Israel's strong answer.

Not by excusing them, ignoring them, belittle them but calling them out for what they are.......racist Jew haters who use lies and a fantasized morality in the name of palestinism to legitimate that!

Instead of being the Light under the Nations, Israel has become the Jew among the Nation.

That has nothing whatsoever to do with it's inhabitants or behavior but with that of the world who has this genetic illness called Jew hate for which no cure exists!
19. Mr Kleinberg misses one point.
Jack ,   Galut   (10.11.18)
Although its achievements are that big, BDS has to be taken seriously, because it might have a long term impact. The influence of such kind of lobby group usually grows exponentially. This means that if you let it to take off even slightly, it might quickly be too late.
One point is completely missed in this article: South Africa. Of course, no comparison about behaviors of both entities. But the events leading to the end of the Apartheid show that, without fighting it, BDS could well lead to existential threats for Israel. This is why, although its influence is fortunately currently very low, the risk shouldn't be underestimated.
20. Queen Ester syndrome
(10.11.18)
It all began in Purim back in Babylon. Everyone wants to exterminate the Jews or at least we think so.
21. Boycott the Boycotters
Alexander Scheiner ,   ZY, Israel   (10.11.18)
1. The BDS-Movement is anti-Semitic, it is not designed for the well-being of Falastinians but for defaming and demonizing Israel and Jews.

2. Foreign BDS-supporters must be refused entry into Israel.

3. The Falastinian expat communities are the most vicious supporters of BDS and anti-Israel and anti-Jewish activities.

4. The most evil supporter of BDS is the “new Israel Fund”, NIF, “Notorious:Infame:Fiendish”.
22. A very only you pivate view , good for Facebook?
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto -Kiriat Gat   (10.11.18)
Why again Ynet publizice so self reflecting monolog? Trying to be Woody Allen in vey sick and cheap way???
23. It's not hysterical.
Brad ,   USA   (10.11.18)
When Israel does something that causes "outrage" from her enemies, she's just done the right thing. All of the Islamist sympathizing pukes with their eternal sniveling is irrelevant except for being the indicator of good, in my first sentence.
24. Most answers to national psychosis can be found in marketing
Shachar ,   Eilat   (10.11.18)
and the psychology of marketing. Reality has no place and no followers in the modern world. Today there are concepts and narratives. Each person decides which narrative and concepts suit him most and then reads only things that confirm his original belief. Critical thinking is dead and buried. This isn't restricted to Israel of course, this is a world-wide obsession. Everybody invents existential threats as a way of gathering disciples and pushing them to work. In many ways Israel is not a normal country but acts very much like every other country these days....and perhaps that is not really the result we wanted!
25. BDSers like Nazis who enforced boycott of Jewish stores
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.11.18)
BDSers are like Nazi thugs who enforced Hitler's boycott of Jewish stores by stopping people from patronizing them. In other words, they are mortal foes of the Jewish people. Like "Palestinians". They deserve to be treated as such in EVERY way.
26. Having your cake - and eating it
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (10.11.18)
Israel is a victimised country, assailed on all sides by antisemites, anti-Zionists, Palestinians, Muslims and the Arab world at large.Consequently, any organisation or movement which positions itself as any way critical of Israeli policies and actions - however small and insignificant - is an existential threat.
Or - Israel is a victorious nation-state, having won numerous battles and wars, and is one of the most, if not the most, militarily powerful countries in the Middle East.
So - and this the trick - Israel is both winner and loser. It is both in and out of the ghetto at the same time.
But it's a trick - reminiscent of the age-old definition of chutzpah: the boy who has murdered his parents but who leads for mercy on account of the fact that he is an orphan.
27. Truth Hurts
Disillusioned   (10.12.18)
Setting aside the BDS issue, Kleinberg describes Israeli society very accurately - and painfully so. It's become too arrogant, and the boorish, bad-mannered and thoughtless behavior has done country more damage than BDS has managed to do so far. Had they been a lot less arrogant, in the firm and arrogant belief that they're way too smart to be done down by "goyim", they would have taken more trouble to counter the Palestinian narrative long before it became so widespread that it is the only narrative the world has been exposed to. That is unforgivable on the part of several Israeli governments over the years.

That said, Britain and America in particular regularly refused entry to those they consider undesirable for a whole lot less. If someone is working behind the scenes to cause a detriment to the country they visit, then a country has every right not to put up with them.

As for detention for questioning, I fail to see the problem. Again, British and American authorities subject suspicious individuals to intense and lengthy interrogations before deciding whether or not to allow entry, so singling out Israel as being undemocratic or high-handed for doing so is remarkably hypocritical. The entire BDS initiative is a Soros-funded, but Palestinian-run attempt to delegitimize Israel's existence. If you have ties with sworn enemies of a country, you should expect not to be make welcome.
28. Like saying because ISIS almost gone to stop fighting them
Steve Benassi ,   Minneapolis USA   (10.12.18)
29. The most stupid column of 2018.
Roberto Feldmann ,   Santiago, Chile.   (10.16.18)
Aviad Kleinberg lives in the past, doesn't live in the disapora, doesn't understand anti-Semitism directed against Jews now with Israel as the excuse. It is mortal, it does mobbing, nullying, assaults, deep trauma and psychological harm to Jews, and brainwashes non-Jews everywhere in the world. Stupidity gets exponential when combined with petulant denial.
