1. Security for Israel, in this case.
Sjoerd van der Velde ,   Hoorn Holland.   (10.21.18)
It all remains people"s work. Nobody is perfect. Perhaps almost/nearly absolute security is possibly (99,99%).
2. We were told the same thing long before the rocketd
(10.21.18)
The longer we waited the more powerful they became the longer we wait the more Israelis will die when something finally has to be done..
3. DEUTERONOMY 11:12
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (10.21.18)
In parshat Eikev : ' a land the Lord ,your G-d , looks after ; the eyes of the Lord your G-d are always upon it ,from the beginning of the year to the end of the year ." Defensive israeli systems such as the Iron Dome and Arrow are really intended to reduce potential panic and fear in the population ,to give a sense of security.Does Israel really possess enough iron dome rockets to counter tens of thousands let alone hundreds of thouands of enemy rockets ? we all know the answer to that one. To reside in the Holy Land requires belief and faith .
On the other hand ,and in need of serious consideration ,where in the world is truly safe? London 2018 with frequent stabbings ,shootings and acid attacks? Paris with increasing violence? Sweden with rapes and violent crime ? Mexico with rampant violence ? and ,we should not forget that Israel has serious deterrence capabilities and her enemies should be ,and most probably are, aware of those capabilities.
4. ANOTHER THING
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (10.21.18)
We can never be completely ,or 100 % certain exactly how effective, or otherwise, these defensive systems are in practise ,their effectiveness can only be simulated. And no sane person is keen to find out in reality, G-d forbid . This is not meant as criticism, rather as a statement.Having said that, israeli citizens should be grateful and thankful to its leaders and Government for doing all in their power to protect them ,and us.
5. Judging by the defeatist stance of our present top brass,
(10.21.18)
it is indeed the citizens that will have to take their own safety into own hands.
Funny, since we're "people's army"....
6. Correct
Kaja ,   Baja   (10.21.18)
Very correctly said. Alas, people are so easy to fool nowadays. There is no absolute protection. Marketing techniques obscure reality. People don't use commonsense and they want to believe whatever they hear.
7. All correct - except one thing
Disillusioned   (10.21.18)
Much has been made of Ms Tamano's courage. This is truly not the case. Thousands of parents along the periphery, and indeed, around the country, happen to know what a siren is for, and it is only the idiot who doesn't know what is required. Following instruction is the sensible, human thing to do, especially when one has small children.

Turning her into a "woman of valor" for being wisely fearful enough to take no chances is a wild exaggeration that mocks the almost daily routine of border communities. It would be better to chide those who don't, those who go out to watch the Iron Dome in action, those who are arrogant enough to consider themselves to be smarter than missiles.

In addition was a serious deficiency in omitting another government failing; it is estimated that well over a MILLION Israelis do not have protective rooms. Older buildings - of which there are many - have nothing but stairwells to rely on - hardly reinforced considering that many were poorly constructed, from not a lot more than sand. That the government has not invested in these for the entire country - instead of spending billions on coalition funds and luxuries we all know about, is an absolute disgrace.

As Iran supplies Hamas and Hisbollah with guided missile technology, let's not consider how "courageous" it is to seek shelter when we hear a siren, but how cowardly and grossly neglectful it is of this self-interested government to have, for years, ignored the reality of all those who actually have nowhere safe to go when it goes off.
8. And this is News? It is known - stop preaching
judah ,   jerusalem   (10.21.18)
9. What does Israel have?
Ardeth Bey ,   Detroit   (10.21.18)
Does Israel have as many missiles to sling back at this dirty diabolical thing called hezbollah? There is little doubt Israel could singe the whole of Lebanon & Syria, leaving who remains with a hairdo resembling that of an SOS pad. But what does Israel have as far as conventional missiles? Would they have as many as this foul thing called hezbollah?
10. yuval, of course missile defense is not fullproof
yvet   (10.21.18)
yuval, most know that missile defense is not perfect and far from it. not only that, it can be overcome by Hezbollah swarming it which they will do.

so i agree home front instructions are crucial, but there are a few other things to consider. you want an illusion-peace is an illusion period. the best that can be had is cold peace. those peddling it are wasting Israeli time.

A big factor is this-Israel has to go on the attack with land forces and not sit behind fences and rely only on the air force. this is a real problem. various Israeli leaders shied away from combat - in particular olmert and ivni, and repeatedly bibi . except for Ariel Sharon, no Israeli leader recently has brought up the attack option. Israel has to attack if war is imminent.

those who will let the idf loose are Bennett and feiglin so why don't you vote for one or the other. you know very well that lapid, gabbay and livni and bibib will not attack. you are a hypocrite if you keep voting for zionist union or lapid. they are carbon copies of olmert who was an utter failure in security.

Bennett and feiglin will attack. and that is what it will take- land force attack, naval, air force and artillery. and the idf has been damn slow in assembling a land force rocket division to counter the Hezbollah. the idf has been damn slow in this field. you have to have an attack option independent of the air force. in 73, soviet missiles blunted the air force so land forces went in to take out missile systems. this is something that bibi will not do. why. the best i can ascertain is that he was shot in the Suez waters and nearly drowned. he was saved by his comrades. that trauma has never left him. he fights only defensively and reluctantly.

so you should consider what i have written. without going on the attack in the way i have described, Israel will be a sitting duck.

CONFUCIUS ,   SAFED CHINA   (10.21.18)
Expect the very worst and plan appropriately and be pleasantly surprised by the outcome . Be over-optimistic and overconfident and repent at leisure !

16. War changes and we must buy weapons for 2018 not 1967
Zionist forever   (10.21.18)
Air and cyber defenses might not be very glamorous compared to the sight of a colllum of tanks driving in formation but it’s not 1967 anymore and the weapons our enemies use have changed so either we adapt or lose. How will the ground forces with their traditional weapons protect us from a cyber attack or a barrage of missiles?
You cannot just get rid of the old weapons favoured by ground forces but we have to diversify and as the budget is limited it means ground forces need to make do with less so we can deal with a greater range of threats which is something senior officers do not like to recognise because they see how things were done in the past and say it worked well then so it will work well now.
17. This is why Israel must hit back.
Brad ,   USA   (10.23.18)
Hit back early, often, and a hundred times harder than Israel got hit.
18. sad
shaban   (10.23.18)
we are not in war game as two persons with two sword or group infront of group with guns and bombs we are two sociaties on the same place and same times sorry to be enemies even to attack is stronger than to defend you can attack with a stone or with a nuclear bomb ..sad
19. Back to Golda Meir's motto. Hit them atleast 7 times harder
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.24.18)
The best defense is a strong offense. Golda Meir used to say, "Whoever attacks Israel should not be surprised when Israel hits them back at least seven times harder". Israel needs to return to Meir's philosophy.
20. bibi-israel has to do what is good for its security
orly   (10.25.18)
no matter usa, europe or russia, israel has to ensure its own security regardless of pressure. do not chicken out bibi no matter the threats. stand firm in the face of anyone. i think you will fold-you simply lack the guts to hold firm. that is your modus operandus. you always buckle under pressure.
21. An illusion
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (10.26.18)
Life, by definition, is insecure. So, take all practical measures for defence but not to the extent that it makes life unbearable.
