Israeli Chief Rabbi David Lau published a rebuttal on Facebook due to the fake news being reported against him.

No one is saying these people didn't die 'Kiddish Hashem'. No one is saying this wasn't a tradegy of indescribable proportions. But, for the conservative movement to spread hatred from this tradegy to force their skewered beliefs on Khal Israel is what makes 'assimilation logic' repulsive.

Those Orthodox Jews living in Israel that reject serving in the Israeli army, must not be considered honorable Jews, and even more, we shouldn't obey their extremist rules. They must not be allowed to dictate who is a Jew and who is not until they understand that religious duties have to go hand to hand with the regular ones; what is a Synagogue and what is not. Shame on us that we let them dictate what is more convenient for them as to maintain power.
