1. Its Right Wing vs Left Wing, Israel values vs America values
Steve Benassi ,   Plymouth, MN USA   (10.31.18)
Israel will be forced to accept a more liberal attitude toward the native Palestinians, end the Blockade, Occupation, and Apartheid in Palestine, agree to a Palestinian State in line with International Law, 2 States, 1 Country, or suffer Perpetual War, loss, and the end of the minority "Jewish State".

2. I have said it time and time again......
DSM ,   USA   (10.31.18)
The majority of America's Jews are liberal/progressive first, socialist/communist second and Jews maybe third. They care little of what happens to Israel unless it makes them look bad. They believe in the Democrat party and nothing Trump or any Republican does for them will stop them from voting Democrat. Although Obama was against Israel every chance he had, America's non orthodox Jews loved him because it showed how liberal and progressive they were.

"Like Lamb to Rupture"? Is that a real thing?
4. It is political
Beauchard ,   Amsterdam   (10.31.18)
The religious schism be healed or a compromise can be reached.
I think the major split is between a part of American Jewry and the rest of world Jewry.
They have become active members of the political hysteria and hatred that has engulfed the US.

I have been reading a lot of American “as a Jew” and “we Jews” comments and articles on social media and mainstream media sites.
The hysterical hatred against their political opponents is overwhelming.
All the comparisons to Hitler and the Holocaust are outrageous. This is the diminishing and demeaning of the Holocaust.
For some "we Jews", the murder of Jews is mainly an opportunity to further their political agendas.

It is also hypocritical.
The outpouring of righteous indignation is selective and dependent on the perpetrators of the attacks.

The Pittsburgh gunman’s hatred of Jews is identical to the hatred expressed by the Nation of Islam and in the prologue to the Hamas Charter. The language used is also the same: Jews are “Satan” and behind all evil in the world.
However, no hysterical outrage or tirades full of hyperbole about this Jew-hatred: wrong perpetrators.

The Jews of Europe are being beaten up, harassed and murdered. In many cities it is not even possible to wear a kippah in public.
Israeli Jews are attacked almost daily.
No hysterical outrage or tirades full of hyperbole about this Jew-hatred: wrong Jews and wrong perpetrators.

For these American Jews their preeminent identification is with their political party, not fellow Jews in the rest of the world.
5. Rupture?
Eileen ,   Kiryat Ono   (10.31.18)
Is this a new proverb? The one I am familiar with is "like lambs to the slaughter"..
6. Yoaz Hendel is not honest on two counts
Stan ,   Israel   (10.31.18)
One, the ultra-Orthodox do not live in a world of "theoretic Judaism". They control our Jewish lives here in Israel and have done so since Israel came into being. They are not the only ones who do not recognize Conservative Jews as Jews. The Chabad rabbi of the town where I live told us that we "are not Jews"

Two. Conservative and Reform Jews who are against the Occupation are not against fighting terrorism. As to the handling of the demonstrations in Gaza, if young men try to breach the fence, they should be shot, but demonstrators 50 meters from the fence should not.

Only intelligent and responsible article I've seen in ynet since... well, ever. Kol ha-kavod!
8. Let's be honest: Orthodox & others are different religions
Ron Steinberg ,   new York   (10.31.18)
9. "the government is the only one who can heal the divide..."
More Olives Now! ,   Your House or Mine?   (10.31.18)
I generally admire this author but on this point he is less than correct. Societal trends, the ones that matter and typify a culture, polity or zeitgeist, are generally organic and of the people. If a government comes to personify a collective outcome or become synonymous with it, it will have been because at its genesis, it was a manifestation of the people's will. This is the case no matter if we are talking about the first American government in the 1780's, the Bolsheviks or the Nazis. The divisions in the States and the ongoing stirrings of a recalcitrant Right and ascendant Left are part and parcel of something larger than the American government and that is the culture itself. So too the condition in Israel. There is no singular policy or set of policies that have set the US and Israel on their perspective trajectories. All of this has emerged out of societies, that were at their foundation, the best hope for their perspective peoples. Whatever the causes of this clash of world views and ideologies, I will wager that the government doesn't solve it... their people do.
10. Time for Israel to return to its Zionist foundations as
David Turner ,   NYC   (10.31.18)
homeland for the entire Jewish People, and not a preserve of a small, self-selected minority of zealots whose votes make or break governments.
11. Modern Orthodox are neither radical Orthodox nor liberal
Sam ,   Montreal   (10.31.18)
The extremes of religion or of politics create divisions.
12. DONT COUNT ON AMERICAN JEWS!
naro ,   nyc   (10.31.18)
Most American Jews will do for Israel exactly what they did for the Jewish victims of Nazism in Europe-absolutely NOTHING. They will sing and dance and play golf and tennis while Israel suffers. There will be a few brave and tough Jews who will risk everything for Israel's survival, but the numbers will be small. DONT COUNT ON AMERICAN JEWS!
13. Disgusting...
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (10.31.18)
how every pundit uses the brutal murder of 11 Jews to advance their own agendas and world-views. The press created this fake news about Rav Lau by choosing to focus completely on what he didn't say instead of the unifying words he did say and then they exploit the Fake news they created. Now the ultra-orthodox are to blame for US Jews who disagree with Israel in how they fight terrorism. The press is disgusting beyond words.
14. The author of this article
Jeb Clampett   (10.31.18)
seems to think that the Reform and Conservative movements have a future. That the situation of uncommitted and unobservant Jews is going to continue long term. It ought to be clear as possible by now that these premises are wrong. Even nowadays, we are seeing that only Jews who are committed to their heritage are going to be around in 25 years. The temples and "synagogues" of the Reform and Conservative movements are largely empty. To try to fill them, they will continue to change the "rules" so that even professing Buddhists, Christians and anyone and everyone else can all be somehow considered "Jewish' and be (dues-paying!) members of the various congregations. All the while, the observant Jewish communities continue to grow even bigger. The gentile offspring of these mixed families and congregations will simply not be interested in any sort of Judaism -- even the massively diluted one the Reform and Conservative movements are serving up. And they surely won't evince in them the slightest interest in a Jewish state, or in the Kotel, or anything else relating to the Jewish people. The reason is simple -- they are not Jews and so won't be interested in anything Jewish. And this is already the case right now. In 25 years, this phenomenon is only going to increase. The free lunch that has existed for many decades of somehow being Jews without any serious commitment to observance is ending. And BTW, it's happening even in Israel too, albeit at a slower pace. But, the inevitable end is .... inevitable. It's time to realize and admit that Jews who don't study and observe Judaism -- will cease to exist. Reclaiming our Jewish heritage and committing to it will go a long way in preventing this tragedy.

peaceful ones.
16. when people are robbed of their voices
C   (10.31.18)
who asked the german people whether they wanted a million muslims in
their state? nobody asked them.
today, the germans are seething, as are the sweeds and the french.
they were not asked about their opinions on the matter of letting in
millions of muslims who are unable or unwilling to assimilate into
european culture.
george soros has been an enthusiastic supporter of the migrants,
as are quite a few of his mega-billionaires. they, of course, do not
have to live in multicultural towns or take the public transportation.
they do not have to fear for the safety of their children, the girls
especially, since they can hire security guards to guard them.

the elites in the west live in age old bubbles where terms like
privilege, cultural misappropriation, gaslighting, are the newly
minted vocabulary of the elites who belong to the cultural
marxists.
nor should anyone think that infractions of the rules of cultural
marxism will go unnoticed or even unpunished.
in europe, criticism of mohammed can lead to fines, imprisonment,
or even removal of children from the home.

such brutal response to citizen's complaints can and does lead to
the sprouting of far right parties and movements.if people do not get
satisfaction from their elected governments, they turn to darker forces
emerging from ancient hatreds.

before demonising trump, the elites with their snickering, should
take a long hard look in the mirror,
