2. The orthodox religious establishment has done to the...
Nadav Katz ,   Qatzrin   (11.07.18)
...Qaraites, historically, what they now attmempt to do the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist movements. As a ciizen of the State of Israel I strongly suggest that we act at three levels: 1) We ought to teach to our young, as well as our adults, Jewish history and Jewish communities worldwide. 2) We ought to dissolve the concept of a State Rabbinate. 3) We ought to recognize, legally, each of the above movements as legitimate and legal ones. It is high time we acted!!
3. Maybe they are Jews according to you, but G-d & Torah say NO
Rafi Sallouma ,   Beer Shiva, Israel   (11.07.18)
How can they be real Jews when they disavow the Torah, claim revelation is progressive and contend Christians and Muslims may enter heaven?
4. Where is the difference?
Jean-Pierre ,   Netherlands   (11.07.18)
The author asks what is the difference between a dancing "progressive" Jew and a Jew killed by terror, hate and antisemitism?
From our jewish point of view there is no difference. We do embrace them and dance with them as long as they do not question the roots of our Judaism
as they have been kept along the history of the Jewish people. We cry and feel sorrow for them when they are killed. A Jew according to the Orthodox Law remains a Jew even if he does not fulfill all the Mitzvot. A non-Jew remains a non-Jew and we accept this fact even if we have danced and sung with him.

But the difference is how the haters and the antisemites see them. If these terrorists had followed the Orthodox definition of a Jew I am sure they would not have killed these innocent victims especially during their prayers. This is the difference and it is set by the non Jews. We Jews do not change our attitude towards the others.
5. Reform and Conservatives aren't Jewish
David ,   Berlin   (11.07.18)
The problem isn't per se with those born Jewish but with those converted in a non-Jewish, reform or conservative way respectively and with their children. Considering the author's logic Jews for Jesus should be considered Jewish, too. Doesn't make sense, does it?
6. Our brothers and sisters
(11.07.18)
This article is mistaken and completely misunderstood. Just like brothers and sisters and they fight and argue but they truly love one another. So to with the general Jewish population we may have different opinions and may argue and disagree but we still love each other for who they are our Jewish brothers and sisters
7. Intolerance
Larry Winterfeld ,   Montreal   (11.07.18)
"Intolerance lies at the core of evil. Not the intolerance that results from any threat or danger. Not the intolerance that arises from negative experience.
Just intolerance of another being who dares to exist, who dares to diminish the space in the universe left for you. Intolerance without cause.

It is so deep within us, because every human being secretly desires the entire universe to himself. Our only way out is to learn compassion without cause. To care for each other simply because that 'other' exists."

From the book BE WITHIN, STAY ABOVE meditations on the wisdom of the Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson compiled and condensed by Tzvi Freeman.
8. What nonsense!
Yehuda Z ,   Ashdod   (11.07.18)
Please do not confuse being sinners with being Jewish. Reform, Conservative, and all other 'modern' denominations distort the Torah, which includes the Oral Tradition. Their beliefs run counter to the foundations of Judaism. However, they are Jewish. (And I'm not going into the issue of converts.) The Talmud clearly states that a Jew who sins is still a Jew. A Jew who (G-d forbid) converts to another religion is still a Jew.
When one is killed for being a Jew, any sins they did in their lives are immediately forgiven, and they get a reward to which the righteous ones in the nation cannot fathom or attain. They are called Kedoshim - Holy ones.
So their is no confusion here. They are our brothers. Always. Saying that religious people do not consider the Reform and Conservative Jewish is just a lie.
9. OR IN OTHER WORDS:
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (11.07.18)
Let's water down judaism in order to accomodate and suit liberal snowflakes. I agree with Atilla Somfalvi that we should all try to be nicer and more caring ,but the Torah forbids certain behaviours and we can not compromise. If some fellow wishes to compromise, he has got the wrong religion.
10. To A. SOMFALVI
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (11.07.18)
With respect, it is not the job of " Reform and Conservative jews" to " decide for themselves what's allowed and what's forbidden " . The Torah tells each and every jew what is allowed and what is forbidden, it aint up to us to rewrite / re-invent the law,and if that is incovenient to some people , then so be it.
11. Spot on
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (11.07.18)
Every word...
12. At 83 yrs old some see the truth ...
Moshe Israel ,   Tivon, Israel   (11.07.18)
The wandering Jew through history has accumulated virtuouses and faults;
speak, write and understand almost every language;
contribute to science, medicine and even to the arts, especially music.

According to the some learned and the many jealous goyim the faults are magnified, exaggerated , their sole description of a Jew.

Today the Judaism has the same complexion as the description above.
The religious divisions amongst the reunited Jewish people are a product
2,000 years of dispersal and adaption to every strange culture.

Some Religious scholars, those of a narrow mind, see other Jews as worse than goyim ! Left wing, "wordly and Jewish-by-birth-ONLY see Judaism as
irrelevant.
When one reaches 83 yrs old and faces the end sometimes one sees the
truth.
13. moishe rabeynu
moishe   (11.07.18)
all the meshuganeh ultra orthodox are going to heaven but they will be segregated from other Jews and only allowed to deal with themselves. it will be god's punishment for driving other kinds of jews nuts. divine justice.
now you know why it is 'shver' to be a Jew.
14. Who is a Rabbi?
Jake Livni ,   Jerusalem   (11.07.18)
"Attilla Somfalvi" is completely wrong. Reform and Conservative Jews are Jews. No one anywhere denies this. However, Conservative and Reform rabbis are not Rabbis, at least not in the Jewish religion. The question was never about "Who Is a Jew?" It was always really about "Who Is a Rabbi?" R and C "rabbis" who charge fees for religious services when they have no regard for nor knowledge of Jewish Law and tradition are guilty of consumer fraud. Because they are a relatively small group, they have rephrased the argument as "Who Is a Jew?" so as to offend their congregants / customers. Somfalvi is spreading misinformation.
15. Stop forcing this lie of murder and death down our throats.
(11.07.18)
Same as asking what Jesus would do, well Jesus would do nothing for he never existed.
16. Reform denies Jewish books from God throws out all laws
(11.08.18)
This is not a religion but a new culture and ideology.
The only parts of Judaism they keep are copying orthodox and getting rid of what they feel like.

Saying reform is Jewish is no different to saying Christianity created by Jews, or Islam which took Jewish law, are Jewish.

If you want to change a defined religion go make a new one. Shame on you.

A Jew is born a Jew. A religious Jew is one who coverts through the proper channels and learns and follows the laws. You r not a Jew just because you feel like it.....

So yes even as an atheist I am a Jew as my family has been on both sides for thousands of years, but not a religious Jew.

We live in a world where a man can become a woman just by saying it, they can also change back and forth.
Now one can be a Jew just by saying it.

Progressive nutjobs believe a person can choose their sex, age, and race by feelings. This has led to men winning many womens sporting events, getting elected to government positions set aside for women, getting pension years early, and many more ridiculous things. Time to go back to sanity...
17. They are Jews if their mothers are Jewish
Bar Star ,   Jerusalem   (11.08.18)
We are people and not a religion. There is no word Judaism in the Torah.
Their converts are not Jewish. The lineage of the Conservative and Reform Jews must be checked. Their religions should have refrained from the conversion business because of the problems they created for themselves.
18. There is a fair bit of exaggeration in the article
Shachar ,   Eilat   (11.08.18)
The great majority of Israelis see the Reform and Conservative Jewry as Jews for all purposes and welcome them here on an individual basis. There is animosity between the Rabbinate and the reform/conservative movements based mainly on the rabbinate wanting to keep it's monopoly on religion in Israel at any cost. That is a political battle for the Knesset not a split between Israeli and American Jews.
19. Israel
Marsha ,   Benei Dror   (11.08.18)
Please note it is not ISRAELIS who condemn members of Conservative and Reform congregations! It is members of the Haredi congregations!!
20. While Chabad is so "orthodox"
(11.08.18)
With its false cult of rebbe-messiah. Chabad claims to be orthodox. It attacks the reform denominations, but it itself looks more like christianity.
21. The problem is their anti-zionism.
ROXANNE ,   haifa   (11.10.18)
The real issue is not whether Reform Jews are real. The problem is that they don't appreciate the need for a Jewish state.
22. 2 bds supporters elected in US elections with reform support
