1. I used to be a Trump supporter - until this
MadDad ,   Johannesburg   (12.20.18)
Trump you are turning out to be worse than your predecessor BHO who was very bad
2. Ron is wrong
Steve Benassi ,   Minneapolis USA   (12.20.18)
Now Russia, Turkey, Iran, Assad will vye for power in Syria and clash with each other to Israel's benefit
3. Russia is in & the US is out
Ardeth Bey ,   Detroit   (12.20.18)
There is little doubt since Russia into the middle east big time, the US knows it has lost all credibility. Why? The US has been warned by Russia not to fire anything into Syria, or at least attempt to.
With the s-300's and s-400's dotted over Syria, the US knows for sure if they should attempt anything against Syria or Russian interests, they will leave with what is left of them, totally beaten and totally humiliated. Thus, their fleeing back home. This in itself is a humiliating thing for the Americans, who were the big kids on the block but obviously, not anymore!
4. But Mr Ttump is Israel’s best friend. Right?
Bertram ,   London, UK.   (12.20.18)
5. it's a strategic disaster for US, Israel, Jordan, Saudia -
Rafi ,   US   (12.20.18)
- and most immediately for the Kurds.

It's a strategic windfall for Russia, Iran, and most immediately - Turkey's dictator Erdogan.

Trump's decision will accelerate the likelihood of a catastrophic war between Israel and Hezbollah/ Iran.

Looks like the decision was made in a vacuum by Trump
(NO CONSULTATION with his own security or diplomatic advisors, or French/ British allies!)
- but following a series of phone conversations with Erdogan...

one explanation: WATCH FOR THE NEW TRUMP TOWER coming soon in Istanbul !
6. This is Trump's "America First" Policy

be forced to grow up and become responsible for it's own fate.
especially vs Islamic plans
9. Trump's policies are setting the ground for a huge war
C   (12.20.18)
israel will not allow genocidal iran to take over all of neighbouring syria.

the kurds, who did the majority of fighting against the islamic state,
are betrayed once again.

russia despite its many bad actions, will become the master in the
middle east.

just as obama, trump is reducing american influence world wide.
their reasoning might be different, but the outcome will be the same.
10. Not the end of the world
Fred   (12.20.18)
Ok it is not the end of the world for Israel. Some 2000 US soldiers were exactly saving Israel from destruction. The Jewish state should rely on its own.
That's the whole point of having our own country and not to depend on gentiles to help us. Also if US soldiers are not fighting ISIS, Asad and his friends will get their hands full.
11. This is the decision of a Russian stooge not an
Shachar ,   Eilat   (12.20.18)
American president. 2000 soldiers out of an army of 4 million doesn't bring any savings whatsoever...it is a bullshit excuse. Putin got Trump elected exactly for this purpose.....letting Russia take over the Middle East.
12. Whatever it takes
Raoul Schur   (12.20.18)
Trump will do whatever it takes to prop up his economic plan, even doing what he so passionately criticized Obama for.
13. US does not fight israels wars
jochair thijssen ,   kfar saba Israel   (12.20.18)
It was never meant that USA would fight for Israel. usa's support for Israel's actions is quite enough and highly appreciated.
14. Who benifits?
Rich ,   Toronto   (12.20.18)
The Syrian government and the American people.
15. You Are Too Kind
joseph goldberg ,   gush   (12.20.18)
You are too kind to attribute Trump's withdrawal from Syria for economic reasons. In 2014 it was Barack Obama who put them there, not to engage in combat but to train the rebels. If you know Trump, it is not incredulous.
16. It is All About Obama

17. The quds force wants to encircle israel for deterrence
Tehraniporou   (12.20.18)
but it remains to be seen whether irans internal policy will allow these people to commit further resources amidst the state of bankruptcy of private institutions and the peoples exploding anger
18. Should never have been there
David ,   Zeehan   (12.20.18)
Seppos should never have been in Syria. Period
19. Better call Jared...
Gene Graczyk ,   Santa Rosa CA   (12.22.18)
This only goes to show that Israel can not count on Trump. The Kurds fought ISIS and died with us but a single phone call from Erdogan wiped all that away because Trump needed to distract the news from his current scandals. Bibi is reaping what he sowed by flattering Trump and must now commit Israel to increased military involvement in a constantly changing and murderous civil war with a neighbor. If he so easily abandoned long term allies for a moment of attention, he may yet turn on Israel if it means a single point increase in his approval polls. You have been warned...
20. Americans are tired of Middle East Wars
Lisa ,   Phoenix   (12.22.18)
Trump understands Americans are fed up with Middle East wars. It's time for the US to allow Israel to fight its own wars. Enough already.
21. Unfortunately it will only suck many more soldiers in to
Shachar ,   Eilat   (12.23.18)
a preventable war. When the russian puppet in the White House finally leaves the next president will have to restore American influence in the middle east and that will cost thousands of American deaths. Israel does fight it's own wars, it's the Kurds and Shia's that need American help.
22. Agree with article except for reason
(12.23.18)
I agree with everything the article says except for the reason. It isn't economics. Two thousand troops is nothing compared to the number of US troops stationed all over the world.
The reason that Trump is pulling the troops out of Syria is the same reason that Trump is insisting on the funding for the wall - it is what his base wants. And if he wants to be re-elected in 2020, then he has to keep his base happy.
23. Fantastic, tremendously smart move on the part of Trump.
(12.24.18)
He's setting the stage for IDF to finally wipe Islam off the map.
At least: from the map of the Land of Israel!
Well played, Mr. Trump.
