1. Our elderly population dont deserve this
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.22.19)
and Bibi needs his own plane ??
2. TAKE NOTICE
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (01.22.19)
Sadly, israeli politicians are too concerned with and occupied with scandals and trying to accuse Netanyahu and others of corruption that they fail to notice the old ,the poor and weak in Israel . The state of Israel looks after its elderly citizens and others but it could perhaps do more ?
3. ALL ISRAELS' MONEY GOES ON DEFENCE
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED HONESTY   (01.22.19)
4. Interesting that you don't hear from American ex-Israelis
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.23.19)
that they see those poor elders. Who hides them, why are they invisible in larger Israeli cities? I doubt they never come out or have moved to the even more expensive suburbs. Are those holocaust survivors and elderly poor ashamed to show their faces on the busy Tel Aviv streets and public squares, or are the ex-Israelis turning away when they pass them by? Most stories I hear from the returning ex-Israelis is how many huge crates you see overhead on construction sites in North Tel Aviv. Thanks, Mr. Amir Alon for looking down at the ground level in the Center of Israel and for noticing the non-operating heat pumps.
5. and unable to afford renting, olim are leaving the country
ex Oleh Chadash   (01.23.19)
as I did.

Come to Brazil. It's too hot here. Schnorrers!

6. Irrational.
MICHEL EISENFELD ,   ASHKELON   (01.23.19)
No not all the money goes to defense; alot of money goes to gaza to appease those wanting to kill us . Its a shame.
7. Make Smart Budget Moves
dorian s fund ,   tel aviv   (01.23.19)
This problem is universal. I feel for our older citizens, even though I am just about the same age. Sometimes we have to make decisions that are not easy, the smartest move for elderly who do not have children who can help is to find room mates and live together to share expenses. The idea that they have lived in their current apartment for 20 years and don't want to move is acceptable if they can afford to live there, but life changes and people regardless of age need to adapt to circumstances.

Yes it is hard to live on 3-4000nis a month but this is not the fault of the government. This is not a bad pension if they had saved over their lives a combination of saving and pension would see them able to survive.

What happened to working past the age of retirement to keep a bit of money flowing.

It is our responsibility to plan and prepare for the future regardless of age. I recently met a gentleman who has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He is young with children from 8-15. He has made no plan, has no insurance, and he and his wife are doing nothing in the little time he has left to prepare and make sure the children will be taken care.

The wife does not work and she is making no effort to find employment, they just think the GOVERNMENT will take care of them.

The bottom line is NO ONE deserves to be without the basics, elderly should not have to live their last days with such worries. We should help as much as we can, but we need to realize that some of the blame is theirs for not making any efforts and preparations. There is no answer to their problems as their just isn't enough money to support everyone.
8. But Bibi finds the money for his children very easily
Talula ,   Tel Aviv   (01.23.19)
He spends a whopping 100,000 shekels a month on security for his unsavory and overly self-entitled son, who don't even deserve it How disgusting is that? It breaks my heart that people cannot afford heating bills while Bibi's loud-mouthed waste-of-time son is hanging around outside strip joints with a team of bodyguards - paid for by the tax payer.
9. Stop pandering to your enemies..there is enough money.
Al   (01.23.19)
My late mother would say. When you are young you prepare for when you are old.

Save what you can you'll need it.

As for your kids..don't depend on them especially if you spoiled then rotten.

Government is not your wet nurse. They OWE you nothing.

They're in the business of taking care of themselves.
10. Something wrong here...
rom ,   israel   (01.24.19)
I have been a pensioner for 13 years and I don't get nearly as much pension as 4000 shekels per month, but I manage all right.
11. Gaza aid should be REDUCED...
The Archives ,   Kuala Lumpur   (01.24.19)
The money gained from the reduced Gaza aid should be used to feed the Israeli citizens who are incapable of fending themselves after being investigated by welfare officers. The logic is to administer one's household to ensure that every member of the house is well fed and their needs are met before ensuring others are fed. Even Moses in the Torah ensured that his people and the Egyptians that were kind to his people when they were vexed by those who are task masters. It is right to put the needs of every Israeli regardless of age who are incapable and who needs welfare to receive aid. Another is to have heated dormitories for the aged to reduce electricity costs.
