1. You don't want to find 'common ground' with enemy, no Sir!

2. Ben-Dror Yemini is Right
Steven ,   Rockville MD USA   (01.24.19)
The US is more important to Israel than Chad. Unfortunately for the present day Democratic Party Israel is not important. Yemini should closely watch the anti-Israeli feelings enhanced and expressed by the large number of newly elected congressman and women.
3. Excellent article
(01.24.19)
It saddens me to no end, but I believe it is the truth. Israel has become a partisan issue, American Jews can no longer turn a blind eye to policies that they feel are against their values, Trump's rhetoric was blamed in part for the stirring leading to the Pittsburgh massacre. Jews need a US. president concerned about them as Americans in diaspora. Trump fails miserably at that. Swastikas are up 76 % since he was in office. Very sad, but it is the reality.
4. There are limits to what Israel can do
SK ,   Tel Aviv   (01.24.19)
Shouldn't warm Israeli relations with African countries help with the identity politics obsessed progressive Democrats in the US? Not sure what Israel can do short of commiting suicide to get support from the likes of Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar...
5. GREAT ARTICLE, PERFECT SUMMARY OF SITUATION
Rafi ,   US   (01.24.19)
For more than a decade, Netanyahu's totally mis-played and alienated Israel's relationship with the US, Democrats - and the American Jewish community....

But his alienation of these critical groups was UNNECESSARY.... and in defiance of decades of non-partisan Israeli foreign policy.

Right-wing zealots and much of the Orthodox community will cheer Bibi on... but they'll be the first to complain bitterly when Democrats inevitably stick it to Israel.... letting them become the epitome of hypocrites.
6. Waning Jewish influence in USA
Jacob Edelman ,   NYC   (01.24.19)
American Jewish representation in the House of Representatives and the Senate is far beyond the numerical importance of the Jewish community in the United States for historical reasons and this has played an important role in the support Israel has managed to maintain in the past 50 years or so on the American national scene. However, as other minority communities gain prominence in number and activism ( Black-Americans, Spanish speakers, muslims and women) the importance of this representation will wane as these minorities will seek representatives from within their communities . So Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders who come after him will have to find broader themes to engage the American public and its leadership. The "Christian" Zionists are running out of steam and their support is problematic for the long run. After all the world is discovering that democratic Israel is using questionable methods in managing and administering the continuing occupation of Palestinians and large segments of the American public ( and its emerging leadership) no longer like what they see.
7. "failure to find common ground with ..."
leo ,   usa   (01.24.19)
"... the Democratic Party and American Jewry "
---
First, Democrat Party is slowly leaving USA and Israel.
Second, not all USA Jews follow Democrat Party as mindless flock of sheep and especially with respect to Israel, far from it.
8. That’s a great piece ! Bravo! I coudn’t agree more

Sad,the penny has not dropped for the journalist. The divorce has already taken place. There is no no support for Israel from America's left.this was amply demonstrated by the democratic party"s support for the Iran deal, vote against Israel at UN,support for BDS,interference in Israeli elections, leftist democrat billionaires like Soros using there wealth to influence change to the fabric of society in Israel, leftist universities spewing antisemitism, and much more.To establish bipartisanship Israel would have to subscribe in part to the lefts beliefs. Most israeli"s would consider this too high a price to pay.
10. the democratic party
LARRY LISS ,   usa   (01.24.19)
Israel should not worry about the left wing american party they are made up of 30 year old children in a fantasy world of video games player have no clue to history waste of time the republican party is growing and will win the next election
11. wrong ben dror
arieh   (01.24.19)
stop with the idealism ben dror. Israel has to deal with real world and even make deals with tough countries if it is too its advantage.

it is pathetic that Israelis some of them still cling to peres make peace with your eyes closed. 6 million died.

Israel's no 1 imperative is to protect and defend itself and not dabble in ben dror's idealism. enough of that and enough of light unto other nations who resent 'the chosen people'. as one told me, mind your own bloody business.

Arabs have one quality to be admired-they fight like hell. and it seems every Arab house has guns. in the world we live in, Jews have to have guns in every house so never again can mass killings take place.
12. Sorry you are wrong.Obama 's abstention happened before Trum
Alan ,   SA   (01.24.19)
Bill Clinton and Obama decided with Dem Party Management to take the Dems down the ethnic and Third World route. Since Israel is Persona non grata with these demographics a schism started between the Democrats and Israel on the whole (forget Bibi stories).I doubt if things will ever be the same between Israel and the Democrat Party. Of course, the Jews will be called upon to fund the Democrat Party and they will pay up handsomely.as they always do. Today the Tliabs and Omars are flavour of the week. They arepresent Mogashu North and Ramalah Central ,not the USA. In general America Demography is changing and White Wasp types are going to be in minority.
13. Nope. Left World-Wide Went Psychotic. That's What's Wrong.
Setmose ,   Jerusalem   (01.24.19)
Dems hated George W. Bush policy of isolating Syria and Russia, and regime change in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pelosi and Kerry photo-op'd with murderer Assad to spite Bush. Obama/Clinton instituted RESET policy with Lavrov ceremony. Backfired. Now they blame Russia for H. Clinton's electoral defeat. Cindy Sheehan Left has taken the Dems further -- Dems voted 3-times at 2012 Convention to remove Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel plank. English Left-Wing MPs got an arrest warrant for Tzipi Livni. P5+1 Iran Deal was secured while telling Israel to STFU.

All this and much more has nothing to do with Netanyahu. Nothing.
14. No common ground?
Aviva Ishai ,   Netanya   (01.24.19)
Israel, and Jews worldwide, have no common ground with today's Democrat Party. There's nothing to find. And the fault is on the far-Left ideology now embraced by the Democrat Party, including virulent antisemitism.
If you want to kiss the tuchus of people who hate your guts, have at it. Most sane Jews want no part of that insanity.
15. Netanyahu's Damage
Mark ben Josef ,   USA   (01.24.19)
Netanyahu set out to make Israel a partisan issue in the US. He is succeeding. And it turns out that American Jews are not as fond of Likud and the Israeli right wing extremist parties as we are of Israel and the original Zionist idea. The damage is reparable, after Israel gets over its love affair with extremism.
16. Jewish Uncle Toms adhering to Linda Sarsour expect Israel to
ab   (01.24.19)
commit suicide oblivious to the fact they're useful idiots.
17. What part of "Obama gave Iran nukes" doesn't Yemini get?
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.24.19)
Yemini strikes out again in this article. Big time. What part of "Obama gave Iran nukes" doesn't Yemini get?? How can Israel possibly find common ground with someone who gives nukes to Iran, which screams to the heavens it's desire to destroy Israel?? It's totally irrational to blame Bibi for Jew haters. The new generation of Democrats, like Linda Sarsour, are even worse.
18. Drors will be Drors, you know that, right?
(01.25.19)
19. Democrat Party
Rick   (01.25.19)
The Democrat Party has completely lost its mind. There’s nothing Israel can do to get along with them.
20. The Nadlers and Schiffs et al are last kicks of dying horse
Alan   (12.24.19)
The future Dem Commitee Chairmen/Women will have names like Salim and Owolowo-no more Katz, Mamaduke-Ponsnby or Scarletti..
