The statistics on lack of knowledge of the Holocaust are bad, but could be compared to knowledge of the War in Vietnam, general information about WWII (I'm assuming that most Americans know nothing about WWI). Given that most Americans don't really know anything about Jews, I'm not sure why we would insert a national curriculum on the Holocaust, when we have trouble getting consensus on the meaning of the American Civil War, when the history of the native Americans and an understanding of slavery and the slave economy is often underplayed, etc. Just trying to put this proposal in the context of the various critical areas for American kids to understand.

The Americans and everyone else gets a holocaust lesson every time we turn around. We've heard it over and over again. We know the number, the same number the Jewish press was printing in their newspapers ten years before Hitler came to power. (I have links if anyone wants them.) The number based a Kabbalistic, numerological interpretation of Leviticus, chapter 25, verse 10. That's the one where 6,000,000 Jews have to die in order for Israel to be justifiably established and blessed by your G_d. Well what if the number of Jews killed in WW2 wasn't 6,000,000? Is Israel a valid creation? And what was so special about Jewish suffering in WW2? Plenty of people were killed. 55,000,000 Russians were killed. To be honest I think the American and the world in general are tired of hearing Israelis whine about something in order to extort money out of other countries.

My grandfather and grandmother were in two work camps. Their story is MUCH different than the historical one we all hear about, and are supposed to assimilate.. German records also show that less than 280k actually lost their lives, AND were a mixture of Jews, Poles Chechs, and basically anyone that wasn't WASP.
