The IDF is the most trusted organisation and if somebody has risen to the top in the IDF they have the kind of public respect that no professional politician and there are so many of them because many Generals see politics as the next promotion.

Love or hate Netanyahu if Gantz was next PM it would be a disaster for the country because there is much more to running a country than skills learned in the army, rookie senior politicians are never a good thing.

What we need is a much higher electoral threshold so if Generals or any other celebrities want tp enter politics they need to do it by joining a mainstream party and working their way through the ranks so they learn the skills needed to run the country.
It doesn't matter how you feel about Netanyahu he is an old school MK who started at the bottom and learned the ropes, he did not form his own party to join somebody else's coalition and gain instant access to senior ministries, that's short term thinking and in Israel short term thinkers rarely survive long and if Gantz doesn't win this election next time round people will be asking who is Benny Gantz and they will be looking for the new star because thats the way the dysfunctional Israeli system woks.

i look at Israel now. i see preelection that some candidates want to give up the high ground of defensible borders and bring the enemy closer to the heartland. it is shocking but true. finally, gantz the swashbuckling general was passive and did not pursue tunnels until forced to do so by Bennett. he was roundly criticized for it by shapira and others.

Its beyond my understanding how a guy whos never been in politics who has no policies and very little to say. How can he get more then a few thousand votes and not the ridiculously high polls of the media for a first shot to the Knesset.
