2. Look at Gaza and even South Lebanon evacuation-
Alan ,   SA   (03.02.19)
In English we say;"ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY" Whenever and from wherever Israel withdraws see what happens next. and see how International Community supports the Pals in whatever mayhem they cause. So forget all these lovely thoughts of peace and tranquility.Never will happen.. They are only trying to con Israel
3. EVER HEARD ABOUT A CERTAIN ARTICLE 80?
FO ,   Belgium   (03.02.19)
The "Two State Solution" is a masochistic leftist freak invented to cover their disastrous refusal of an independent Jewish state till 1942 (start of Hitler's Final Solution). Nowhere in International Law is there mention of two states on the territory between the Sea and the Jordan River. United Nations' Charter Article 80 reaffirms ALL League of Nations' decisons including of course the 1922 "Mandate for Palestine". This Mandate gave the Jewish people the IRREVOCABLE RIGHT" for an independent Jewish state between the Mediterranean Sea and the Desert of Arabia including the Golan Heights. The British Mandatory suggested and was accepted by the League, to limit meanwhile Jewish immigration till the Jordan River. This British request is formulated under Article 25 of the Mandate. As from May 14, 1948 there is no Mandate anymore, Article 25 became null and void! Think for a moment about the 10 square Km Israel is "hiring" from the "Jordanians". Amazing, Tamar Asraf, that I don't find anything about all this in your text.
4. Same old same oldrigjt wing scare tactics boring
(03.02.19)
We know there are hawkish rational lefties out there and we are going to vote for them.
5. Court Jew
PermReader   (03.02.19)
The court Jew in power will create the Palestinian Syria-type civil war at the Israeli border with the million migrants and intifadas. Stop corrupt lefist deal of selling Israel to the friendly world workers.
6. Right On
Maurice Margulies ,   Rockville MD USA   (03.02.19)
I wish two states would work. However, I agree with the article that it would not. The current situation is not good..... but.... However, Israel cannot count on the U.S. forever ..... Just look at the new Democrats.
7. What is your alternative ?
Df2 ,   Beer Sheva   (03.02.19)
It is very easy to criticize someone else's position. I agree that that a two state solution is sort of a pipe dream - mainly because the Palestinians are not interested in a "partial" solution - they want it all. However, what is your alternative? Continue with the present situation? Annex the West Bank, and all of the Palestinians living there? Annex the West Bank and expel the Palestinians? Which one is your solution?
8. Unfortunately too many Israelis still fall for that fallacy!

9. Balkanization of Land of Israel won't work, won't happen!

10. Yes but WHICH two state solution?
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (03.02.19)
What do Palestinians want

1.The 2 State solution that excludes Gaza entirely?
2.The 2 State Solution with a Palestine in two halves connected by a ‘motorway’ through Israel?
3. Or even a THREE state solution..Israel. and Gaza Palestine and West Bank Palestine

Any of them workable?
NO

What we want is CLEAR
A UNIFIED CONTIGUOUS and SOVEREIGN Palestine alongside Israel within mutually secure borders

Is it POSSIBLE?
As far back as 1999 Palestinian academics worked out how this could be achieved. Dubbed the PEG Plan it envisages a unified contiguous Palestinian State the size of Lebanon in an expanded Gaza created from land purchases, trades and substantially funded by international aid

And slowly but surely as Palestinian public opinion sees the huge potential - the concept of the PEG Plan is beginning to gain ground.

What we now need is an open and honest internal grass roots debate on WHAT IS BEST for the Palestinian National Interest
11. Should the pals attack...Israel should forcibly deport them!
Moshe Israel ,   Tivon   (03.02.19)
Among the future steps that Israel MUST take in the event of the pals physically attacking Israel :
A total exclusion of pal from Gaza and/or the West Bank.
At the rate of 5% of the pals/month in 2 years Israel should forcibly remove these pals.

True: this will NOT achieve peace, Such a policy will create distance ; while concentrating the pals as military target.
a military target.
12. 2 state solution
tomer ,   jerusalem   (03.02.19)
tamar ,with all due respect that what you write is simply "bar talk". It is neither
serious nor correct, nor comprehensive. I do not know if you are journalist,or contributor or whatever. Its simply substandard and not worth commenting further.
13. there's no solution
Avi L.   (03.02.19)
but at least Israel will get rid of bibi and his sycophantic retinue of minorities wanting to subvert the State for their own particular financial interests

Bibi is no good for the Jews
14. two states
victor leon ,   rome   (03.02.19)
There are two states, conform the Balfour declaration.

Israel and Jordania.
The so-called paliz are arabs, part of the arab nation and have their own country: Jordania.

So they have to make a choise: Israel or Jordania.

If they want to stay ,they have to respect the jewish law, the same way that if you stay in an arab country, you have to respect their rules.

IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT

moishe   (03.02.19)
there is a concept in the treatment of cancer that holds if you can't cure it you can treat it like a chronic disease to keep the patient alive. the 'Palestine' problem is a cancer for Israel with no real cure. treat it like a chronic disease and survive. for how long? maybe god only knows. a Palestine state with certain rights will seek to destroy Israel. Israel should not be fooled again by false promises.
16. We already have a 3 state solution, Israel, Jordan and
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (03.02.19)
the terrorist state Gaza....ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
17. nice
David   (03.03.19)
Nice to see some sanity seep back through the opinion pages here. It was a regular occurrence just a few years ago-- not too long ago, the sharpest Zionist commentary was to be found here, before the editors seemed to make a decision to veer leftwards. Anyway, it's good to see the return of good sense.
18. no country accepts burning of its lands and people
earl   (03.03.19)
Israel known for genius and talent has had a dearth of it over the last years. you have gen russo saying southerners should stop being crybabies. then you have gantz who followed the book and did not save yusef, slow walked the gaza war and had to be forced to hit the tunnels which he badly underestimated. then you have the haphazard Lebanon withdrawal. what kind of generals are you producing???.

of course bibi was no great help because he is not an attacking soldier, no way, regardless of his resume. even lieberman did not drop the boot on the idf to get cracking. only Bennett set the cabinet on fire to go do it.

sick of bibi , Israelis turn to the alternative who is gantz right now. he is the wrong general to lead Israel.

galant would be better.
perhaps yaalon could redeem himself from his poor conduct in the Gaza war if he gets down to business.

Israel however is led by a bunch of dumbbells. the few that are good, the media ignores.

just like Jews ignored bielski's pleas to go to the forest to hide and then fight, they ended up in ashes after being bashed, whipped and bludgeoned.

i fully understand wanting to boot bibi out. he was more like herzog than the real likud.

why not vote for non conventional candidates-zehut and feiglin, bennett and shaked in the new right.

the international community will not defend Israel if it concedes. in fact, they will demand ever more withdrawals. There is no room to give.

i cannot believe you would be that stupid.

19. Minority of Jews+majority of Pals reject Pal or Jewish state
Sam ,   Montreal   (03.03.19)
There could be a 2 state solution if both parties were ready to negotiate the issues (borders, refugees, Jerusalem etc) until satisfaction. It's not possible because the Palestinians want BOTH Israel and the West Bank Muslim controlled as was during Ottoman Empire or under new Muslim rulers today. For good public relations and money the Arabs try to con the West that 2 states is possible but that is just a con game. The status quo will stay unless someone like Gantz decides to make unilateral withdrawals.
20. Should not have settled there to begin with
(03.03.19)
End of discussion.
