First, this message should be relayed to the Palestinians. They don't want peace. If they did they would have it and their own state tomorrow. They desire death and destruction. Israel should never commit suicide and that is that leftist antisemites like Gandhi advocates.

Gandhi, like his grandfather, is too ignorant to see that Israeli and Palestinian conflict is much different then the British rule of India. Gandhi was dealing with a "moral" enemy to which the British government wouldn't just allow them to kill 1 billion Indians (not to say there were atrocities committed by the British). After the British left Indian in 1947, MILLIONS of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, & Jews were ethnically cleansed from Pakistan. Over a million and half were killed. Millions more were displaced. a lot of Mr Gandhi's idea seem fanciful, but if there are to be better lives it cannot come from more killing. What is needed is respect, tolerance, and ultimately reconciliation. And those taking the first step to that will be heroes.
That said, the forces for peace are weak on all sides and almost non-existent on the Palestinian side which has essentially refused to compromise since day 1. But that has only made things worse for them, and it weakens any spirit of compromise on the Israeli side, which I tur makes Palestinians even more hostile. However, one must never give up hope to reverse the process as that's the only way to improve lives for all.

Why is it that people living abroad with their own culture which is not Middle Eastern Culture both in the West and in the East all think that they know what is best for Israel or anything about making peace with Moslems when they do not have the slightest understanding of the problems Israelis face either politically or of defense. Great comment. Many Indians don't like Gandhi. His grandfather did us NO favors by saying we should just allow ourselves to be martyred (as another commenter said) He obviously if full of himself and will be praised by an audience who loves to put down Israel. We are light years ahead of where we were in 1948 and before NO THANKS TO HIM or his thinking. I think he needs a bit of modesty before he lectures us, and he should read a few books about our history!

once the West bank is annexed Israel will have an equality of Palestinians and non Palestinians. So eventually the Palestinians will get civil rights. So Israel needs to learn to work with the 20 percent Palestinians with Israeli citizenship.But it's not all bad. He has nothing to teach. His understanding of the situation is strange. What you don't understand is that Israel has been trying to make peace with the Palestinian Arabs. It is them who don't want peace. They are determined to destroy Israel. One can not make peace with an enemy who wants to destroy you.

It was interesting to read Dr Arun Gandhi's views on Israel and the "poor" Palestinian people. Dr Gandhi's suggested Gandhian philosophy does not function and did not function in the past. It failed with the catastrophic partition of the Indian subcontinent. I am a benei Israeli born and brought up in Bombay. I am 82 yearsof age. I lived to see and experience daily during this period where millions of people were slaughtered like animals due to the fact and presentation of the Gandhian philosophy of Ahimsa. It takes two hands to sound a "clap". Learn from history. Do not preach failed policies. I am fortunate to have lived both in India and Israel during these turbulant periods in both the countries during major portion of my life. I would humbly suggest Dr. Gandhi to desist from preaching and promoting these policies coated with Ahimsa - non-violence. Israel would have been non existant with Gandhian philosophy.

Karthik, I ama living witness of the positive relationship between India and Israel.I am 82years old Indian born to the benei Israel community as well as an Israel National. During 1967 Israel Arab war...... in India three of our benei Israeli community members were protected by our Hindu friends and neighbours from being murdered by gang of muslims..... will never forget that. However, I disagree with Dr. Gandhi's views, they are misplaced in current middle east situation. Peaceful solutions are inconceivable where the PLO is bent on destroying Israel itself. I have also experienced our attempts to resolve peacefully.
To continue Dr. Gandhi's manner of simplifying by examples in lay language..... I ask you "Would you allow an outsider to invade your home, to kill and rape? I am certain you will not invoke "Ahimsa".
Dr Gandhi, I believe is aware Mahatmaji's philosophy cannot be applied in roday's world...... it is only good as a reading material to CASH-IN while it lasts.
