Had Israel taken out some Hamas leaders and terrorists the truce would hold longer. Just taking out targets doesn't strike great fear into the terrorists.

Why is Egypt mediating in this conflict? Egypt cannot/will not be unbiased, or impartial and neutral. Also Egypt thinks first on it"s own national interests. Egypt is an "islam" dictatorship. Hamas also. Israel is a democracy. That does not/will not go together. Israel is a good example for these entities. Gaza also is part of Israel (proper).Better conditions in Strip remains/will remain to be seen. Even the UN failed in Gaza.

Period conflict and truce is the name of the game. All-out war is a risky business for either side. A real peace would destroy the raison d'etre for both rejectionist Palestinian nationalism and Zionist extremism.
