2. Churchill famously complained about democracy
and depending on the rules of the game, it can be more or less ugly. Israel has a form of proportional representation that is too much. contrast the US where the extreme views also exist, but are contained within the bipartisan system. no sane politician will start a new party for his own ego there. Israel needs to mature its system, even if it means givong up some.of is Jewishness, namely that in a room with four Jews there are five opinions. Good luck, Israel!

1. Maybe the problem is with the pollsters, and not the public? 2. I'm sure if you asked the public about income tax, 90% would vote to abolish it. 3. If a minority feels very strongly about something and the general public is apathetic, then the minority generally gets what it wants. 4. A lot of people give the polster the answer they think he wants. 5. And this is the main point. The public does not trust the left wing parties, period.

But there is a problem. The very foundation of Israel is on the basis of identity politics. The problem is not confined to Israel - Northern Ireland has been plagued by identity politics - but until Israel undergoes fundamental change to become a fully-fledged democracy the problem will continue.
