The government backed down on this one because Eurovision was round the corner and if there had been a war it would have meant Eurovision being called off which would have been an economic disaster and it would have meant no more big events would have been held in Israel because there would always be the threat of a possible war and the event having to be called off as a result.
If 700 rockets had been fired after Eurovision was over then right now there would be tanks rolling through the streets of Gaza.

All of Israel's past and present enemies needed or need to learn hard lessons the difficult way.One that they cannot defeat Israel .Two that they have to co-exist with Israel.Three that they have to deal with Israel.Egypt and Jordan are very advanced in that respect.The PA IS still learning but is more advanced than Hamas.Lebanon and Syria have both had a good beating so they are about one third of the way in the learning curve.Iran is still in the infant school stage.There is no point in getting rid of Hamas as they have already learnt the know Israel 's lesson.Getting someone else in their place means that you have to start afresh and that makes no sense.Hamas just needs to spend some time to reflect.

Israel is clearly being punished for our mad retreats. We never had these kind of problems until we insanely uprooted our beautiful Gaza communities and handed our land over to our mortal "Palestinian" foes. How much more punishment are we willing to take before we reverse our cursed retreats and permanently retake what is ours?

These people in Gaza are Egyptians! Israel may have to bomb them if they do not straighten out. In Jeremiah 49, Damascus, Syria is a burden and should be set on fire. Yahweh is also against Ammon, Jordan.
