1. Pushback
Jake ,   Dallas   (05.15.19)
This is what happens when the judiciary takes the legislative power to itself. There is push-back. The anti democratic forces of the Israeli judiciary seized far too much power for themselves and the Israeli left was pleased as punch. No talk about power seizure by Justice Barak. They were warned repeatedly that there would be push back to a judiciary intervening constantly in the democratic process for purely policy reasons. The Left did not listen so please spare the tears.
2. Wrong on both counts: there's already a law in place, that
(05.15.19)
makes it possible for the MPs to obtain immunity (but it's not by default!) Second: the proposed law aims at defending our democratically passed laws from being overturned by a politicized Supreme Court!
It does not fly, Mr. Yemini!
3. Nope, we're stopping the tyranny of Barak's Supreme Court &
(05.15.19)
making adjustments to the already existing laws, concerning immunity of sitting MPs!
Nice try, Yemini.....
4. Israel doesnt have a constitution!!!!!!
Eden Einav ,   Leshem   (05.15.19)
Fact!!!!!
5. where there is a witch hunt
One who knows   (05.15.19)
One has to protect himself. Taking a PM down for cigares and champagnes or positive coverage. The left is pushing with its ridiculus claims - the right comes up with the same undemocratic tactics to undo what the left perpetrated in the first place.
One should ask himself the question: with one paid speech to the private sector; how many champagnes and cigars could the PM afford himself?
6. Deeply Concerning
(05.15.19)
Enough said.
7. Constitutional Crisis
Joseph ,   West Caldwell, NJ   (05.15.19)
How can there be a Constitutional Crisis, if Israel does not have a Constitution?
8. Spot on I could say it's Berlusconi 2.0
Tehraniporou   (05.15.19)
The only thing yet to be discovered is the bunga bunga3
9. How did it happen?
Disillusioned   (05.15.19)
This will be the question asked by Israelis - and indeed, Jews around the world - when democracy ends and authoritarian/totalitarian rule begins.

It starts with the split into tribalism that is engulfing the country, and with the growing fundamentalist ideologies adopted, not only on the right, but also on the left. It was Begin - yes, Begin - who first vowed to destroy the left in revenge for their having rejected him from unity government. Ever since, there have been plans to inculcate, in the minds of the people, the notion of an internal enemy.

The left has gone too extreme as well. But the right gained the minds of the people with a steady dripping of poisonous propaganda, swallowed hook, line and sinker by what really is a very gullible but large section of Israeli society.

Netanyahu is a cunning exploiter of other people's weaknesses. It's both admirable and detestable at the same time, but it's got him where he wanted to be with a ruthlessness that is free from personal conscience. He has rid his party of whoever he's seen as a threat to his plan to be the one and only - forever.

Cleverly, he allowed it to take many years as the people became conditioned. He shifted demographics, got into bed with fundamentalist religious nutters and allowed them free rein to spread their ideologies through schools and youth movements, by a steady stream of incitement against the media and against minority groups. And, finally, like all dictatorships, the poison turns on those who challenge the legality of what is happening: the media, the educated elite in universities and, finally, the law itself - the judiciary and the police.

The stage has been set. The people have followed like lemmings. And the day has come for Mr Erdoganiyahu to snatch the last remaining obstacles to absolute rule. All the warnings have gone unheeded. The people have only themselves to blame.

And what has allowed it, more than anything, is the transformation of our society into a self-centred, hedonistic, I'm alright Jack, one that can't be bothered to "deal with politics". Israelis have become too fat, too lazy, to self-indulgent to get out there and show the government what real protest looks like. Like the French do. Like the Venezuelans are doing. Like the Greeks are still doing in order to at least show that they will only take so much before they start to fight back.

Now it's time for action. It's time for worldwide Jewry to do the unthinkable: to do what the Israelis are too weak to do. To stop thinking "it'll fuel anti-Semitism" and start protesting outside Israeli embassies to stop the march to totalitarianism. Start criticizing in the media. Nothing hurts him more than a threat to his image: it's time to hurt it big time.

10. More fake news won't help you sore leftist losers
Jake   (05.15.19)
The democratic will of the people once again refused to give you a mandate.
Stop whining and stop trying to paralyze governance of the country with more fake news, rumors, and heresay.
11. I am panicking,
Alexander Scheiner ,   Israel   (05.15.19)
because the (once) Jewish State Israel is approaching a pre-Fascist dictatorship. Ruled by an extreme Right Wing, combining supremacy and extreme orthodoxy. This policy has nothing in common with Zionism.

The first step was the so-called "national law", superfluous and dangerous for our (past) democratic and liberal values. Created by a sick mind.

Now we are watching Israel turning into an entirely different state. Similar to Turkey, similar to the Islamic Republic Iran and other countries ruled by nationalistic, populistic, extreme right and inhuman politicians.

FOR ZION
12. Shame Ynet.
Steven Allsopp   (05.15.19)
Comparing Netanyahu to that mass murdering tyrant in Turkey is a disgrace Ynet. Shame on and shame on you Ben-Dror Yemimi.
13. nathanyahu
LARRY LISS   (05.15.19)
kick him out of office or live with 700 rockets a month
14. Are you nuts??????
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto -Kiriat Gat   (05.14.19)
Israel's legislation is an aberration where the legislative body, Knesset has not power to legislate , ISOJ is political weaponize with excessive power as its role to implement the legislation , and its function overlap and is not limited.
Yes should be executive privilege for PM to overrule the aberrations of ISOJ and fire those JUDGES involve in political character assassination and political manipulations.
15. Sad!
Rephael Rechitzky ,   Toronto   (05.15.19)
Israelis! How could you choose a criminal such as Netanyahu for a Prime Minister? A man who runs from the law and who will do anything just not to face charges. This is the worst politician Israel has ever had. I pray he will be the last one too.
16. You are dishonest organization!
Rephael Rechitzky ,   Toronto   (05.15.19)
I noticed you do not insert my comment. You are a lousy, dishonest organization that support dishonest politicians and try to create an image of an organization that show a true news. No, you block anyone who is against Netanyahu and by doing that, you block democracy.
17. bibi better than gantz worse than bennett
morton   (05.15.19)
never again means bottom line Israelis will fight to the last man and take aggressors down with them. there are no guarantees. prayers for the world to stop the insanity fall on deaf ears. Israel has to be feared and admired.

rabbinic training have left the kids knowledgeable in torah but defenseless in the face of physical threats. religious clothing shouldn't be worn outside of shul.haredi must have idf or martial arts training. stop wailing. fight back as many israelis do.

as for bibi, there should be no immunity law period. if the state can prove its case which i believe they can, then bibi should be booted the hell out of office.

replacing him with gantz is not the answer since his track record in gaza is horrible. bring back Bennett.

18. What is this GEVALT about?
Zeev ,   Raanana   (05.15.19)
Mr. Yemini made a strong statement that needs proof. What exactly are the two pieces of legislation promoted by the PM? Draft laws always have a title, name of the initiator(s), etc. How exactly the PM is promoting them? Did he make public statements about these drafts?
If there is no answer, too bad. Serious people should not resort to such kind of publications.
19. The struggle is between those who want dictatorship,
Shachar ,   Eilat   (05.15.19)
those who an Iranian style theocracy and those who want Palestinisation - tribal anarchy. The majority don't want democracy or the rule of law, they want to be like the countries they fled from......
20. pro dicto-cratic* lobby bots r out in full force!
(05.15.19)
dicto-cractic = a dictatorship with the patina of a democracy.
dicto-crat = a dictator who uses democratic processes to advance his hold on the people.
dictocrats, examples given, Erdogan, Putin and the democratically elected prime minister of the State of Israel

C   (05.15.19)
it is not anti-democratic to grant immunity to prime ministers or presidents
as long as the immunity expires at the end of service.
the purpose of immunity is to protect the person from political persecution.
such immunity granted while in office ensures predictability in the eyes
of not only the public but also most importantly in the eyes of foreign
leaders.
the high court of justice has grabbed enormous power for itself without
approval of the knesset.
the high court's jurisdiction cannot be unlimited. in particular, with
regard to matters that pertain to issues of national security and
foreign policy, the jurisdiction of the court should be limited by
basic laws. national security and foreign policy are usually of the
domain of the prime minister and the security cabinet.
22. All democracies have immunities to leaders while serving
Shoula ,   Tel Aviv   (05.15.19)
America , France, Britain, Germany, Australia , Canada all have immunity to presidents and prime ministers while in power
23. Judicial dictatorship
Bar Star ,   Jerusalem   (05.15.19)
Contrary to what Yemini writes there is a strong grass root support for the new law. " push for a legislation to overturn Supreme Court decisions - is going to lead to a constitutional crisis "... Israel has no constitution and no standard for the Supreme Court to uphold. Therefore, there must be a complete separation between legislative and judicial branches of government as originally proposed by Shaked and Bennett.
24. Yemini: GREAT PIECE!
Rafi ,   US   (05.17.19)
25. mr
ben meir   (05.19.19)
no one to be above the low
the high court roll and make sure we are a country the roll of law is the law of the land
26. High Court has no legitimate right to make legislation
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.18.19)
The real danger is not Bibi. It is the totally out of control High Court. The High Court is elected by nobody, and it has no legitimate right to make legislation or nullify legislation. The High Court must be brought to heel and made subservient to the Knesset, and thus to the people. Period. We also need to replace destructive leftist judges with patriots.
27. "Every country has the government it deserves" .
ex Oleh Chadash   (05.20.19)
Joseph de Maistre:

"Toute nation a le gouvernement qu'elle mérite".
