After Liberman left the coalition leaving Netanyahu with a majority of just 1 then he could no longer hold a coalition together and had no choice but to opt for the early elections he did not want.
Netanyahu would have loved to have a wide coalition that included Blue & White rather than being open to blackmail from little parties but Lapid who is the real power behind ref throne ruled it out because he wants early elections so has no interest in helping Netanyahu form a stable coalition

Sadly even if Netanyahu does manage to form a coalition it’s going to be a end government going nowhere because anything to controversial and probably will not last more than 1 year because the partners are Ruth haredi, far right nationalist and trouble making idiots like Liberman.
If it wasn’t going to cost the taxpayer hundreds of millions of shekels then a new election might even be preferable if the big parties would commit to working together but right now the Gantz/Lapid Team are not interested in the countries best interests.
