This custom is spread among all the Italian Jews for this specific reason of the Omer where weddings are forbidden. A short research with Italian people would have spared years of searching and lots of questions.

Check the bookings in all wedding venues. Fully booked before Passover to avoid delaying for 7 weeks of the Omer. Seven weeks delay are enough time to change your mind, split or loose your partner:)
