As the author knows full well in the Israeli system the winner is the one who can put together a coalition not always the one with the most seats and the ability to put together a coalition usually reflects the national political feeling and there is no such thing as a politician in any country that’s not had their ups and downs so the fact that both Netanyahu and Barsk have had their victories and defeats means nothing.

Sadly Israeli politics is going backwards with more and more parties taking part in each subsequent election with the current fashion being individuals looking to take the fast track to the top so forming their own party such as Tzipi Livni, Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz along with the less successful characters trying the same trick such as Moshe Felgin and now of course Barak.
We need fewer mainstream parties not more little ones but it seems the only ones who have learned this lesson are the Arabs through the creation of Joint List.

Israel will never mature as a country until the dysfunctional electoral system changes until then the Knesset will be dominated by little single issue parties and individuals who have no real political ideology but just want a political career and see forming their own party as the way to start your career at the highest levels by joining coalitions or if your lucky even winning an election.
