there should be some mechanism to allow them to stand. Retroactive building permits, a hefty fine, etc. Something could have been done.
If Arabs are forced to build this way because Israel makes it almost impossible for them to get building permits in the normal manner, then exceptions must be made.
Do Israelis have the same problems getting permits? Let's see if YNet can find some Jewish horror stories about this. If they can't, then this municipal stonewalling must come to an end.
If the Arabs legally own the land, they must be allowed to build on it. If the State takes that right away from them, they must be fairly compensated; by any name Israel choose to use, that's still a taking by eminent domain.
