Pedophile attacks increased in 2006, police say

Most significant rise in pedophile attacks recorded in schools; some 1,200 police officers to visit schools, warn students of dangers involved in surfing Internet

Over 400 children under the age of 12 were attacked by pedophiles in 2006, marking a 15 percent increase from the previous year, statistics published by Israel Police show.
The most significant rise in pedophile attacks was recorded in schools, with 20 percent more attacks registered last year.
On Monday some 1,200 police officers, military officials and members of the Israel Internet Association will visit schools across the country to warn students of the dangers involved in surfing Internet chat rooms and forums. In addition, an Israel Police website is set to be launched to educate children and teens on pedophilia.
Volunteers from various organizations are posing as children online to help the police track sexual predators.
