Israel sees slight drop in daily coronavirus cases, but more deaths

National Information and Knowledge Center reports that over the weekend 1,535 Israelis tested positive for COVID-19, with 4 people succumbing to the disease in the past 24 hours alone

Israel has seen a slight drop in the number of daily coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, but the death toll from the pathogen has increased further, health officials said on Saturday evening.

  • The Coronavirus National Information and Knowledge Center said 833 new coronavirus cases were recorded since Friday evening, bringing the total number of active patients to 10,798. Another four people have died from coronavirus-related complications, bringing the death toll in the country to 330.

    The center also reported that over the weekend, 1,535 people tested positive for COVID-19.
    At least 84 patients are hospitalized in a serious condition, with 32 in need of ventilator support.
    The report added since midnight Thursday, 599 people tested positive for coronavirus and 9,692 tests were conducted.

    On Friday, for the first time since the start of the epidemic in Israel, the number of people currently infected with the virus, passed the 10,000 mark.
    On Thursday a total of 1,130 people were confirmed with the virus and a record number of 24,732 tests was conducted.

    Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he will convene the coronavirus cabinet on Sunday to discuss re-imposing some restrictions on restaurants and cafes. Last week, the government voted to limit all public events, including concerts and weddings, to up to 50 people, with all social gatherings now limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
