Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit told the High Court Monday that Prof. Oded Goldreich should be given the Israel Prize in Mathematics, despite Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton's decision not to award him with the prize due to his call to the EU to ban an Israeli university located in the West Bank.
According to Mandelblit, Shasha-Biton's decision has "no legal merit", and that the award should go to Goldreich in accordance with the recommendation of the committee which selected him.
