Military court acquits Palestinian who tried to carry out a terror attack

After expressing remorse for his actions, the Samaria Military Court acquits a Palestinian, who tried to carry out a shooting attack in Rosh Haayin in September 2020, from the offense of attempting to cause death - equivalent to the offense of attempted murder in civil courts.
However, he was convicted of trafficking in war equipment, throwing stones and entering Israel without a permit.
According to the indictment, Mu'taz Berri decided to commit a terror attack with a firearm, and looked for a place with Israeli victims in Rosh Haayin until he was arrested by police forces.
In its decision to acquit him, the court wrote, "The message is that there is a way back that entitles him to a defense against conviction, even for the worst of offenses."
