Head of the infectious disease department at the Sheba Medical Center, Professor Galia Rahav said on Monday that Israel will not be able to achieve herd immunity against the coronavirus without vaccination of children.
In an interview with Ynet, Rahav said children are a large part of the Israeli population and suffer a more serious illness when infected by the Delta variant of the virus, as research in Israel and around the world has shown.
"Unfortunately there is no assurance that most parents will agree to vaccinate their kids," Rahav said.
Rahav spoke ahead of the FDA's decision on vaccinating children, that is expected on Tuesday.
