An Israeli official warned on Thursday that Israel may have to change course and adopt a military option to end the security crisis in the south.
Out of concern that the Islamic Jihad would retaliate against the arrest of its senior member in Jenin earlier in the week, the IDF has closed roads along the Gaza border and in some communities has instructed residents to stay at home, for the third consecutive day.
"We may have to substitute missiles for words," the official said. "A round of fighting because of the whim of the Hamas group, only to return back to the same point, is unnecessary," he said adding that the Gaza rulers must find a way to convince the Islamic Jihad faction to abandon their desires for revenge against Israel.
