Targeting the Knesset

Israeli-Arab suspected of manufacturing explosives in bid to target Knesset, army base

TEL AVIV - A young Israeli-Arab from the Western Galilee has been detained for allegedly manufacturing explosives and planning to use them to attack the Knesset, the Acco Magistrates Court revealed Monday at Ynet’s request.

The suspect will be held in custody for an additional week and the police say they would file an indictment against him next Monday. The man was apprehended by police and security officials about three weeks ago.

The suspect was taken into custody after purportedly surfing the Internet in search of bomb-making instructions. The man allegedly prepared various explosive devices based on instructions found online. Investigators said the suspect also conducted several experiments.

'Police allegations are all false'

The man is also suspected of contacting another resident of his village who worked as a building contractor at the Knesset in Jerusalem. The suspect had allegedly asked the contractor to help him examine the option of carrying out a terror attack at the site.

Officials also believe the man attempted to recruit other youngsters in a bid to perpetrate other attacks, including the abduction of a soldier and a strike on an army base in the north of the country.

The suspect, meanwhile, has denied all allegations against him.

"Police allegations are all false," he said. "I haven't seen the Knesset, I didn't go in there, and I don’t know what they're talking about."
