IDF vehicles vandalized in south Gaza
Unknown vandals spray-paint ‘Sharon is a dictator’ and ‘Gush Katif forever’ on IDF vehicles; security sources estimate vandals not Gush Katif residents
GUSH KATIF - Unknown vandals damaged IDF vehicles parked near a navy outpost in south Gaza Sunday.
The vehicles damaged are used by the IDF for various infrastructure works as part of the pullout preparations.
The vandals spread glue on the vehicles’ doors, poured a special liquid that disabled the engines and spray-painted anti-disengagement slogans that read “Sharon is a dictator” and “Gush Katif forever” on the windows.
IDF sources estimate the vandals are far right activists who are not residents of Gush Katif.
The incident may influence the security establishment’s decision regarding the closing off of Gush Katif ahead of the disengagement, as it is estimates such incidents would only increase in number.
Gush Katif sources said they do not know who is behind the act and called for an end to the delegitimization of the settlers.
As the disengagement nears, the tension between the IDF and settlers is escalating.
Although the IDF is constantly holding talks with settler representatives in a bid to ease the situation, security officials have expressed concern over the fact that far right activists are pouring into Gush Katif and instigating violence.
