Israel attacks terrorist targets in Gaza

Witnesses say IAF destroyed Hamas building and hit another belonging to Islamic Jihad. Army says targeted terror groups’ weapons caches

The Israeli army and witnesses said Israel launched two air strikes on terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip on Friday, destroying a Hamas building and hitting another belonging to members of the Islamic Jihad.

A military spokeswoman said both strikes targeted weapons depots of Islamic Jihad and Hamas, groups that call for Israel’s destruction and have been involved in dozens of suicide bomb attacks and rocket firings at Israel in recent years.

Witnesses said a missile fired by a warplane destroyed a home and office of Hamas, an Islamic militant group that rose to power in the Palestinian Authority after winning an election in January.

It was unclear whether there were casualties in that raid.

In the earlier strike on Islamic Jihad, witnesses said residents appeared to have left the building before the missile struck the house in Beach Camp, near Gaza City.

Israel wounded at least one Palestinian in an air strike late on Thursday in the southern Gaza Strip, hours after five Palestinian gunmen and three civilians were killed in the same area—near where militants seized an Israeli soldier in a cross-border raid on June 25.
