Hebron: Border guard hurt, attacker killed

Armed Palestinian hurls Molotov cocktail at Israel forces manning checkpoint by Hebron, lightly hurting one officer. Troops open fire, killing attacker

The Border Guard killed an armed Palestinian who attacked them at a checkpoint near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron overnight Friday. One of the officers was lightly wounded when the attacker hurled a Molotov cocktail towards the Israeli officers. He was evacuated to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

The IDF said the Border Guard officers opened fire after the Palestinian attacker threw a Molotov cocktail. Officers examining his body after the incident discovered a knife in his possession.

Overnight IDF forces arrested 29 fugitives across the West Bank. Most of the arrest raids took place in the Nablus area, where 24 Hamas operatives were detained.

On Thursday night Palestinian sources in Nablus reported that IDF forces shot and killed a 15-year-old Palestinian youth who threw stones at soldiers operating in the nearby village of Bita. The IDF confirmed that troops opened fire on Palestinian attackers and identified hitting in the leg a Palestinian who hurled a Molotov cocktail.

According to Palestinian sources, however, the youth, Sadi Nayef, was among dozens of youths who were throwing stones at soldiers on routine patrols in the village. According to the reports, two additional youths were hurt by army gunfire. The troops left the city after the incident, the sources said.

The IDF said in response that during IDF operations in Bita, an explosive device and six Molotov cocktails were hurled at soldiers. Troops opened fire at the attackers, hitting one in the leg.

Earlier Thursday night an 18-year-old Palestinian youth was arrested at a Nablus roadblock with three pipe bombs. IDF sappers neutralized the explosives and the youth was taken into custody.
