Iran: 3,000 centrifuges 'operational by March'

Ahmadinejad: Timing of Saddam Hussein's execution meant to 'create discord in the region'

Some 3000 centrifuges currently being installed at the Iranian nuclear reactor in Natanz will be operational by March of this year, Iranian government Spokesman Gholam-Hussein Elham said during a press conference Tuesday, according to a report by the Islamic Republic News Agency.

In his press conference, Elham was quoted as saying that "Iran has demonstrated its prowess and the rest of the capabilities will soon be revealed as well. "

The IRIB also claimed that "the installation and working of 3000 centrifuges" were being monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"Elham... said producing nuclear fuel is a defined strategy for Iran today," the IRIB reported.

Meanwhile, speaking in the southwest Iranian city of Ahvaz, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad charged that the timing of the execution of Saddam Hussein was "designed to serve as a tool for the occupation forces to create insecurity and discord in Iraq and the region," the IRIB said.

"Through the execution of Saddam the US-led occupiers sought to trigger insecurity, sedition and sectarian strife in Iraq and the Middle East in a desperate bid to achieve the goals they failed to materialize during the 8-year war they had imposed on Iran during 1980-88 through Saddam," Ahmadinejad said during his speech.

After defending his country's nuclear program, Ahmadinejad added that "all world countries will sooner or later have no choice other than gaining access to nuclear fuel," the IRIB said.
