Expanding in Israel
Google launched its first center for research and development in Israel on Tuesday.
The center, located in Haifa and operated in cooperation with the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, is Google’s seventh such center outside the United States.

The others are located in London, Moscow, Zurich, Bangalor, Beijing and Tokyo. The search engine giant has plans to open a second research center in the Tel Aviv area.
The new research and development center will develop applications for both the international and local markets. It currently employs 10 engineers, programmers and recruiters, who are also tasked with headhunting fresh talent for the company.
Dr. Yoel Mark, the center’s manager, was formerly employed at IBM’s development laboratories. Mark has 17 years of experience in engineering, and completed a doctorate at Haifa’s Technion.
Google Israel has been in operation for nearly one year, but has been developing at a relatively slow rate.
Dr. Mark explained, “We are being very careful and we aren’t promising things. We want to offer things that will be impressive and that customers will like.”
Mark did promise, however, that the products and applications offered to Israeli customers would expand and improve.
