Rafael lands $50m contract with US Army

Defense systems developer wins multi million dollar contract with US military; to provide American troops with award winning entryway breaching systems

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems won a $50 million contract with the United States Army, Ynet has learned Monday.

Under the contract, Rafael will supply the US Army with GREM "Simon" systems, a stand-off rifle grenade that breaches all types of doors.

The GREM contains a minimum amount of explosives, blasting through by the action of expanding shock waves, which allows for quick entry and easy advancement from building to building without unnecessary exposure to open areas.

The system is usually activated between 50 to 100 feet from the entryway, eliminating the risk of injury to its operator.

"Simon" is the newest member of Rafael's breaching product line, which include a variety of wall and structure breaching munitions that can be fired from within enclosures.

The GREM system was previously chosen by the US Army as one of the top-10 projects in its field, winning it the US Army's Award of Excellence for 2005.

Rafael VP of Technologies, Menachem Kidron, told Ynet that "The American military's choice is yet another proof of Rafael's high standards in the quality of its systems' performance."
